I don’t remember many Halloween nights from my childhood save the time my mother made me an Indian costume complete with an attached baby to wear on my back, and the many malls we traversed in search of candy. Trick-or-treating around our neighborhood wasn’t optimal since we lived on a highly trafficked, dimly lit street. Family-friendly Halloween alternatives, like Saddleback’s annual Blocktober event didn’t exist at the time, leaving families with few options apart from local malls and the neighbor’s Halloween party.
Once again, Saddleback Church will host 9 free Halloween events this year featuring games, rides, candy, photo booths, live music, food trucks, and more. Last year was our first experience at the community-wide Blocktober event and my kids asked weeks ago if we would be continuing this tradition. As a parent, I appreciated having a safe place for my kids to celebrate the season. And while trick-or-treating is definitely our forte, Blocktober offers families much more in the way of entertainment then the simple mad dash for sugar.
Saddleback Church turns into a Fall carnival of sorts and with an expansive selection of activities, we found that despite how big the event is, we enjoyed many of the activities offered.
Admission to Blocktober is free, however, you’ll want to purchase a $5 wristband so that each family member can participate in the activities.
