Wash your hair once a week, they say. With conditioner…and cold water. Just a quick Google search for “how to wash your hair” resulted in advice so conflicting, I started questioning if I should ever wash my hair at all. But then I realized that after a few days of running at the gym and even I wouldn’t be able to be around my hair.
I have thick, dark brown curly hair…a gift passed down from my father’s side of the family. When I haven’t put it through the blow drying, flat-ironing routine, it can be very difficult to maintain. Add in the fact that I have been coloring my hair for over 10 years and my hair care routine just became more complicated.
Admittedly, when TRESemmé approached me to try their complete 180 on the traditional hair care routine, I was hesitant. I already struggle with dryness…the consequence of using heat to straighten my hair and color to add dimension. Even if I don’t have time to shampoo, which has happened on occasion, I absolutely cannot detangle my hair without conditioner. If I wash it all out with shampoo, will my hair end up being a tangled mess?
My first question was why, which I’m certain is yours. According to TRESemmé, the traditional hair care routine (a shampoo wash followed by a condition and a rinse) often results in stiff, crunchy hair, weighty and lacking in luster and volume. With TRESemmé’s Beauty-Full Volume line, you condition your hair first with the Pre-Wash Conditioner to soften it, then use their Shampoo to wash away excess weight from the hair.
The question begs…does it work?
The first few times I used TRESemmé’s Beauty-Full Volume Collection, I noticed that my hair was softer than I expected and surprisingly easy to detangle. I don’t struggle with volume until I’ve gone a few days without washing my hair, which I expect is normal due to build-up of styling products, dirt, sweat and anything else in the environment that ends up on my hair. My hair did feel fuller and less weighted down, but I found that I had to use my serum to help with frizz and fly-aways.
When I set out to straighten my hair, the endeavor can be lengthy which is why I try to wear my hair curly a few times a week. My challenge has always been to find a styling product that enhances and refines my curls with a soft hold. TRESemmé’s Beauty-Full Volume Mousse is ideal for achieving soft, touchable curls that aren’t stiff or crunchy, however, I found that I needed to touch it up mid-day (likely because I tend to use mousse very sparingly).
TRESemmé’s Beauty-Full Volume Collection and Reverse Wash Haircare System is ideal for those who struggle with flat, limp hair and are looking to create a more voluminous look. The collection is safe for color-treated hair, gently cleansing, conditioning and protecting it for a smooth, polished look. The collection is available at your local Walmart.
