Green Your Clean!

Posted by Caryn Bailey 1 Comment

I am a germ-a-phobe!!! I have yet to meet a nurse who isn’t. But to be honest with you….I really don’t like to clean. It isn’t so much the physical act of cleaning as it is the harsh chemicals. The mask…gloves… I have multiple allergies so I end up having to air out the place after cleaning so I don’t spend half a day sneezing.

Now that I have a little one I have struggled to find a safe cleaning alternative. Evening Clorox wipedowns of the countertops are a daily ritual…by hubbie. We often wait until our little munchkin is out of the house before cleaning with chemicals so that he isn’t inhaling before his time (hehe).

On a serious note, some of the most toxic chemicals to humans are found in over-the-counter household cleaning agents. I won’t go into details but read this article if you’d like to find out more information about 8 cleaning agents you should avoid (throw out immediately!).

So…what is tough on germs and green all over? I am thrilled to introduce you to Clorox Green Works! The company moms know and trust to as the gold standard for household cleaning has developed an entire line of all-natural cleaners. And they are rockin’! The entire line is eco-friendly and contains over 99% natural ingredients that are biodegradable.

Thanks to Mom Central, we were able to try out the natural all-purpose cleaner and natural glass & surface cleaner.  Other products in the line include natural toilet bowl cleaner, natural dilutable cleaner, and natural bathroom cleaner.
I used the natural all-purpose cleaner for my bathroom and kitchen counters, stovetop, microwave and shower.  This cleaner is effective for cleaning grease, dirt, and mildew.  Both cleaners have a very mild lemon scent upon initial spray.  It wiped clean without residue and I did not notice any residual scent once it had absorbed and evaporated.

I used the natural glass & surface cleaner for my windows and bathroom mirrors.  Again I found the mild lemon scent to be pleasant without any residual scent once absorbed and evaporated. My mirrors and windows are shiny without streaks.

So, what exactly does natural mean?
According to their website, the entire line is plant and mineral based, contains no harsh chemicals and leaves no residue.  The ingredients are biodegradable derived from renewable resources.

That sounds great…why does the company claim that their products are only 99% natural?

While the active ingredients used in the products are natural, the preservatives and colorant used to achieve that pretty green hue are synthetic.
What else did Clorox do to minimize it’s carbon footprint?
The packaging is completely recyclable, no animals were utilized in the making or testing of these products, and the line is free of petrochemicals.
That’s all great…but do they work?

I can attest to the fact that 2 products I tested were just as effective as the standard household cleaning agents I’ve used in the past.
Do the products disinfect as well as clean?
At this time, Clorox Green Works products do not disinfect but the company is working on a natural product that will also disinfect.
Where can I buy Clorox Green Works?
Everywhere!  Well, your standard stores like Target, Walmart, etc.
How much should I expect to pay for Clorox Green Works products?
Around $3.00 but prices will vary from store to store.  I found the prices to be a bit higher online.
Please visit their website for answers to the most frequently asked questions.

In summary, this rockin’ mama gives Clorox Green Works 2 green thumbs up!
