I have to admit that one of the things I enjoy about the holidays is the food. My favorite holiday flavors? Spice, pumpkin and chocolate! Fresh & Easy, the affordable neighborhood market offering gourmet food, has a selection of holiday treats that will definitely tempt your palate.
One of the only places I can find Il Fornaio’s yummy gourmet breads is at Fresh & Easy. Their new Cranberry Walnut Loaf contains cranberries, raisins, citrus, walnuts, pecans. Toast it, bake it, or slice it for french toast. The mix of cranberries and nuts make it hearty enough to eat on it’s own, although I like to spread a thin layer of butter on it.
Breakfast is truly my favorite meal of the day. Unfortunately, most days, we only have time for cereal or oatmeal. We reserve weekends for our gourmet omelet and pancake-filled breakfasts. Fresh & Easy’s Pumpkin Pecan Pancake & Waffle Mix is like a dessert without the bad stuff (high fructose corn syrup, trans fats, artificial colors/flavors etc.). The mix is easy to make and requires eggs, milk, and oil or butter. While you can use the mix for pancakes or waffles, I think they came out much better as waffles. The mix is a blend of spiced pumpkin and sweet crumbled pecans. (retails for $3.99)
On rainy winter days like today, I like to enjoy a cup of gourmet coffee or hot chocolate. Why not top either with their Hot Chocolate Bittersweet Chocolate Shavings (retails for $6.99)? You can actually sprinkle them over most desserts including ice cream (yum!). And if you’re a true chocoholic, try their recipe for Rich and Creamy Hot Chocolate:
1/3 cup Hot Chocolate Shavings
3/4 cup milk
Heat milk in saucepan over medium heat until milk comes to a slow simmer. Turn off heat. Stir Hot Chocolate Shavings into simmering milk and whisk or stir briskly for 15 seconds or until chocolate melts and mixture is uniform. Cover and let stand for 1 minute. Uncover and whisk mixture for 15-30 seconds or until Hot Chocolate Shavings are completely melted. Enjoy!
