It’s not everyday that you get to play with mud in the name of research. Earlier this winter, I prepared for the busyness of the holiday season by seeking relaxation and renewal at Glen Ivy Hot Springs. Located in Corona at the base of the Santa Ana Mountains, the resort spans 12 acres and features 19 pools and whirlpools, historic mineral baths, botanical gardens, a labyrinth, and more. Open year-round, this sanctuary is the perfect place to decompress from the holiday hustle and bustle, or get a fresh start on your wellness routine in the new year.

Glen Ivy Hot Springs
Glen Ivy Hot Springs has a long history of attracting those in pursuit of wellness, relaxation, and rejuvenation. Their waters include naturally thermal mineral baths, a hot and cold plunge, a saline pool and a lap pool. Known for their geothermal mineral baths, the waters are designed to absorb into the skin and soothe aching joints and muscles. Some of the baths emit a sulfur-like odor, which occurs naturally, as these waters come directly from the earth.
The resort also includes gardens, lounge areas, Club Mud, saunas, steam rooms, showers, fitness, and wellness classes, all of which are included with admission. Individual spa treatments and The Grotto require a separate fee.
Club Mud
After soaking in the baths and pools at Glen Ivy, I highly recommend taking part in their Club Mud experience. This full-body treatment helps soften the skin, draws out impurities, and exfoliates dead skin cells. The “mud” is actually red clay, known for its purifying properties. Once covered with mud, allow it to dry out in the sun or their special drying chamber (The Wafa). When the mud dries, it can be brushed and/or washed off in the adjacent showers. My skin felt incredible after my Club Mud experience, and I complimented the therapy with a visit to The Grotto. Tip: Bring a dark swimsuit that you are comfortable getting muddy (and possibly stained) and remove jewelry, accessories. I recommend experiencing Club Mud after you have soaked in the pools so that you can prolong and enjoy the benefits from the mud.
The Grotto
Once you have exfoliated your skin and removed the impurities at Club Mud, I recommend a visit to The Grotto ($25). The experience takes place in a subterranean setting which I found to be intriguing. The experience begins with a full body masque of warm aloe vera, coconut oil, eucalyptus, and lavender, which is painted on by an attendant at Glen Ivy. This masque is designed to offer intense body moisturizing and feels very relaxing. After the masque is applied, you are then guided into the warm Hydration Chamber to allow the masque to penetrate the skin. At your leisure, you then remove the mask with their adjacent showers. The experience is completed in the restoring cool chamber with warm tea and refreshments. Because the area is spacious, this is an experience I highly recommend doing with friends.
Dining at Glen Ivy Hot Springs
Glen Ivy offers two venues for dining during your visit. The GOCO Cafe is ideal for quick bites including sandwiches, salads, wraps, and fresh juices. The cafe also serves Starbucks coffee.
Headed by executive chef Micah Severeid, Ivy Kitchen serves breakfast and lunch dishes, inspired by Mediterranean and California cuisine. Start your day with a made-to-order omelet or the Glen Ivy Breakfast Burrito. Lunch menu highlights include a Pacific Albacore Poke Salad, a Grilled Veggie with Hummus Wrap, Oven Roasted Chicken Nachos, and flatbread pizzas.
