Did you know that the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood is the exclusive first run theatre for Walt Disney Pictures? The theatre, which is 85 years old, is host to live stage shows, world premieres and special events. Watching a movie inside the theatre is a unique experience and there is some interesting history surrounding it’s development. There are three iconic theatres on Hollywood Boulevard developed by Sid Grauman…the Egyptian, the Chinese, and the El Capitan. In 1989, the the theatre underwent a 2 year restoration, attributed to both the Walt Disney Company and Pacific Theatres.
Last week I attended the world premiere of Cars 2 at the theatre. In true Hollywood style, actors and invited guests graced the red black carpet, set up to look like a racetrack, while onlookers attempted to get a glimpse of their favorite stars. I’ve attended several red carpet premieres but I was really impressed with the set-up including the car-sized replicas of Mater, Lightning McQueen, and Finn McMissile.
If you’re in the area, you can see Cars 2 at the El Capitan Theatre and experience the World Grand Prix attraction which includes a Time Trial race track, an Eiffel Tower bungee jump, a Wall O’Tires climbing wall, a Tokyo Tower slide, and a Finn McMissile spy game.
For more information, just visit the theatre’s website.
