I’ll admit that I’m not well versed on the subject of wine, which is ironic given the extensiveness of our travels. We even lived in Europe, where a meal is rarely served without a glass of wine. If you’re looking to explore some new wines or learn a bit more about how to select a wine, Whole Foods in Venice is hosting a très chic tasting and art exhibit on March 1st. Featuring the work of wine label designer and French artist Gildas Coudrais, proceeds from the Fantastique French Wine Tasting and Art Exhibit will benefit the Whole Planet Foundation.
I’m not always aware of the events going on in my local store, but I love that Whole Foods offers engaging, immersive events such as local wine tasting to introduce the community to new products and concepts. Even the artwork that will be displayed during the event connects locals. Based in Germany, Coudrais’ work often incorporates the aesthetics of pop-culture and resembles the billboards you might have seen on the Sunset Strip. The artist currently creates and illustrates original wine labels for Whole Foods.
If you’re local, I invite you to spend an evening sipping affordable but decadent French wine paired with petit fours. Here are the details for Saturday’s event:
What: Fantastique French Wine Tasting and Art Exhibit
When: Saturday, March 1st from 5 pm to 8 pm
Where: Whole Foods Market, 225 Lincoln Blvd., Venice, California 90291
Cost: $10 (proceeds to benefit Whole Planet Foundation)
If you’re curious about the wines you’ll be sampling, here are a few that my husband and I hand-picked from the list.
Chantebelle Sauvignon Blanc: This wine features crisp citrus flavors and pairs well with starters such as chilled shrimp and goat cheese.
Eagle Coq Pinot Noir: This Pino Noir blend features red cherry and currant flavors and would go well with baked Brie or Coq Au Vin.
Fantastique Pinot Noir: Bolder than many Pinot Noir blends, this one features the flavors of spiced black cherries and would pair nicely with a cedar plank-grilled salmon.
