Free E-Book! Be Out There: Cool Outdoor Ideas for Hot Summer Days

What challenges do you face when it comes to spending time with your children outdoors? Without thinking much about it, I can readily identify 3 including weather (both hot and cold), time and busyness, and convenience (or lack of).  Summer seems like the ideal time to venture outdoors, yet scorching temperatures, lack of initiative, and too many technical distractions often get in the way.
Be Out There E-Book
This week, I shared my love for the outdoors with a guide to camping with small children, so it seems fitting that I would share my top tips for getting our children outdoors regardless of the weather. Cool Activities for Hot Summer Days is just one of the six chapters contained in the National Wildlife Federation’s latest free e-book titled Be Out There: Cool Outdoor Ideas for Hot Summer Days.  You might remember that I talked about an e-book project I was working on.  This chapter includes my contributions, including unique ways to stay cool while enjoying the warm summer days. Some of my favorite tips include making your own popsicles, hosting an impromptu ice cream social, enjoying your local city’s splash pads and water parks, and creating your own aquatic fun with water balloons, sprinklers, or a DIY Slip ‘n Slide.
Be Out There
Spending time outdoors is an essential part of a child’s physical, social, and emotional development.  Studies have shown positive benefits including increased fitness levels, improved academic scores, decreased stress levels, and an inspired appreciation for nature.  Additionally, spending time outdoors offers children the opportunity to practice problem-solving and teamwork with other children.
With 94 percent of parents citing that they don’t think their children are getting enough time outdoors, Be Out There is the resource parents need to overcome challenges.  The National Wildlife Foundation, which released this latest e-book, is on a mission to inspire a love of nature through quality time outdoors. Their goal is to reach 10 million American kids so that they can enjoy the benefits of being outdoors. Will you take the pledge to Be Out There with your kids?
