The most important purchase you’ll make for your child is a car seat. This sage piece of advice was shared by moms who went before me and helped shape my research and purchase decisions. Rather than opting for what was “hip” and “in-style,” I invested in car seats that were safety tested AND received high consumer ratings. Evenflo, the brand you likely associate with baby gear, has been a leader in the development of innovation in this space and their car seats are designed to exceed government safety standards.
Eveflo’s latest innovation is their ProComfort Symphony DLX Car Seat. Designed for infants and children 5-110 pounds, this is the only car seat/booster seat you’ll need for your child. While the car seat comes ready to install out of the box, you’ll want to refer to the manual for detailed instructions on using the car seat rear-facing, forward-facing, or as a booster because it will be different for each position. Since my daughter is the one using this car seat, I made the necessary adjustments so that we could install the car seat in the forward-facing position.
One of the first things I noticed about this car seat was how comfortable it felt. The padding and cushioning serve a dual purpose to keep kids comfortable and safe. Evenflo’s innovative new Gel Matrix Technology reduces pressure point build-up to keep kids comfortable and in their properly seated position, which becomes critical during long road trips. I can’t tell you how many times my children cried out of discomfort during road trips, often requiring that I pull over to help soothe them. My daughter has complained of her “bum” hurting with previous car seats, particularly during longer car rides and I’ve noticed that since we started using Evenflo’s ProComfort Symphony DLX Car Seat, she has not complained. Also included with this car seat is a removable, machine-washable car seat pad and head/body pillow, both of which can be enhance comfort without requiring any installation (i.e. threading) effort.
Admittedly, before LATCH, I always second-guessed my car seat installation skills. In fact, when my son was born, I drove to our local police station to have his infant car seat inspected for proper installation. These days, as long as your vehicle comes equipped with LATCH, you can install/uninstall a car seat properly in just minutes. With Evenflo’s advanced SureLATCH technology, you simply “click” the car seat into the LATCH system and push down to hear/feel the seat auto tighten. One thing to note is that if you are using this car seat in a forward-facing position, you’ll need to move the connector to the forward-facing belt path since the seat comes ready for use in the rear-facing position (I recommend reading the manual to ensure this is done properly).
Gone are the days of threading and re-threading the 5-point harness as your child grows. I absolutely love the ease and convenience of being able to adjust the height of the straps and the tightness of the harness from the front of the seat.
As I mentioned above, Evenflo goes above and beyond to ensure their car seats meet and more often exceed government safety standards. Outfitted with e3 Side Impact Protection, this expanded zone and 3 layers help reduce the forces of a side impact crash up to 50%.
If you spend as much time in your car as we do, you’ll definitely appreciate the comfort features of this car seat. Almost immediately, my daughter noticed her cup holders, which were mysteriously missing on her last car seat. This is the first car seat we’ve owned that actually reclines, allowing my daughter the opportunity to nap during long car rides. It also features an adjustable headrest and buckle pockets which keep the buckles away and cool from the sun’s heat.
Overall, we’ve been very impressed with Evenflo’s ProComfort Symphony DLX Car Seat, and while I would have loved to use this with my children as infants, I still feel like it is a great investment since we can use it as a Booster seat when my daughter grows a bit in size and weight. Evenflo’s ProComfort Series car seats are available exclusively at Target and Target.com. This particular model retails for $239.99 and is available in a stylish, gender-neutral Cambridge color and a more feminine Alexandria color.
