Every year, my son goes through no less than 3 pairs of shoes. At 8, I attribute some of his incessant wear to his age and the fact that he’s very active. But the reality is that many of the shoes made today are not durable enough to withstand the normal day-to-day wear experienced by today’s child. I’ve been guilty of sacrificing quality over cost and in the end realized that I could be spending the total of that money on a pair of shoes that are certain to last.
Fashioned with a blend of style and durability, Orange County-based footwear company etnies continues to excel in both pro and consumer footwear and apparel. We were introduced to the brand and etnies skate shoes several years ago and have found that they are the only ones that my kids manage to outgrow before they outwear.
Skate Style
etnies was founded by former skateboarder Pierre-André Senizergues, who aspired to create the first pro model skate shoe, and the technological advances he originated changed the face of skateboard footwear. The company continues to originate apparel and footwear that boasts ultimate style, comfort and protection and we’ve seen that realized in their kids’ line of footwear. The new Fall etnies Kids’ line was specifically designed so that kids can wear shoes that look, feel and wear like their favorite pro skaters. When we visited Sole Technology Headquarters, we got a glimpse of the science and technology that goes into crafting etnies shoes.
Made to Last
With my kids’ feet constantly growing, we thought the new school year and change of seasons was the perfect time for a new pair of etnies. Each of my kids’ picked out their favorite style from etnies Kids…a pair of Jameson 2 Eco Kids for my son and a pair of Scout Kids for my daughter.
What’s interesting about the Jameson 2 Eco Kids low-top canvas shoe my son has been sporting is that it features recycled rubber in the outsole, recycled plastic in the PET shoe laces and is vegan.
My daughters’ style is admittedly my favorite (I even scored a pair for myself!). Breathable, flexible, lightweight, and comfortable, the Scout Kids shoe is the ideal shoe for her since she’s extremely active. Admittedly, we would love to see more girl-centric styles but my daughter is loving the hot pink accents in her new shoes.
etnies Gives Back
The new etnies Kids Fall Collection features skate style that’s built to last, but did you know that beyond making quality shoes that fit, etnies is committed to the action sports community, mankind and our environment? Founder Pierre-Andre Senizergues opened the etnies Skatepark in Lake Forest in 2003 and it is currently the largest skatepark in California and a fantastic resource for the community. Additionally, Senizergues donates shoes to at-risk children and the homeless every single year.
Buy a Shoe, Plant a Tree
If you haven’t gathered from the types of materials used in etnies’ shoes, the company is constantly striving for ways to better our planet. Through this program, every pair of etnies’ Kids’ shoes sold equals one tree planted with the Trees for the Future Foundation. Through this program, etnies has planted over a million trees.
