Parenting is filled with surprises around every corner, many of which never make it to the pages of the What to Expect Series. Surprises like how polar opposite siblings can be when it comes to potty training or how many pairs of shoes we can go through in one school year. I’ve always wondered why there aren’t more online articles about jeans with Iron Knees and other Kid-Proof Apparel solutions which is why I get excited when I find a brand that makes products designed for kids who wear their clothes and shoes like kids.
Several years ago, I met with the brilliant minds behind etnies to learn about the science that goes into innovating their footwear. Founded by former world champion skateboarder Pierre-André Senizergues, he applied his skills as an athlete and an engineer to design the first pro model skate shoe that would enhance and change the skateboarding experience. The etnies line now includes shoes for men, women and children which merge fashion and durability.
Testing out a couple of new pairs of shoes from etnies’ new Fall line could not have come at a better time. We are 8 weeks into the school year and the brand new pair of shoes I purchased for my son have to be replaced. Thanks to etnies, he received a pair of High Rise shoes in black and my daughter received a pair of Scout shoes in Green/Orange.
One of the first things I noticed about each pair of shoes was the unique, lightweight design. The High Rise shoes are perfect for the winter months, particularly if you live in a part of the country that sees rain and/or snow. The Scout shoes offer incredible support and maximum breathability for kids to stay comfortable all day long.
No parent wants to purchase more than a couple of new pairs of shoes for each of their children each school year. When we met with etnies, one of the takeaways was the great care they take in ensuring kids’ shoes are durable. etnies kids offers the same type of quality and design used in the pro lines.
Not only are etnies shoes good for your kids’ feet, they’re good for the planet. In an effort to impact reforestation, etnies will plant a tree for every pair of kids’ shoes sold. Their goal is to plant one million trees by the end of 2014! You can learn more about the efforts on etnies.com.
