I am one of those, “I need my coffee before I do life” girls. Sneak a peek at my Instagram stories for confirmation. After checking my Starbucks habit, I invested in a Keurig, which has been my staple for mornings when I’m up at half past dark. I absolutely love the convenience of Keurig’s K-Cup Pods, but weekends are for enjoying a leisurely cup of fresh ground coffee. Now, you can have both, thanks to Keurig’s new K-Duo Essentials Single Serve & Carafe Coffee Maker. While most days I don’t have time for something fancy, over the weekend I whipped up an easy Sea Salt Iced Coffee after brewing Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Columbia Select blend and I may never drink coffee the same way!

Keurig K-Duo Essentials Single Serve & Carafe Coffee Maker
How many coffee makers are too many? Asking for a friend! I LOVE my Keurig coffee maker, and I use it nearly every day throughout the week. But I also really enjoy a cup of freshly ground drip coffee. Now you don’t have to choose, and you can save highly coveted kitchen counter space with the Keurig K-Duo Essentials Single Serve & Carafe Coffee Maker.
The coffee maker uses one reservoir which has a 60-ounce water capacity, so you can fill it for either a single serving or a carafe. Once you have cleaned the machine per the manufacturer’s instructions, fill the reservoir to the fill line and select from either a single serving (1 8, 10, or 12 ounce cup) or a carafe (8, 10, or 12 cups). The coffee maker includes a 12-cup glass carafe and a heating plate to keep your brewed coffee warm.
If you are pressed for time in the morning (because, who isn’t?), or you can’t wait a single moment to enjoy your coffee, you’ll love Keurig’s Smart Start Feature. As long as your machine is plugged in, the coffee maker will heat and brew at the same time so you don’t have to wait for it to heat before selecting your cup size. Your energy efficient machine will also turn the brewer off 1 minute after the last single cup brew, and the heating plate will shut off 2 hours after the last carafe brew.
Can’t wait for your entire carafe to brew? The Pause & Pour feature allows you to pause the machine mid-brew for 20 seconds in order to pour a fresh cup of hot coffee immediately.
Perhaps the most compelling feature of the machine is the price. For $99, exclusively at Walmart, the Keurig K-Duo Essentials Coffee Maker allows you the option of brewing K-cup pods and ground coffee for single servings or a carafe. I like the fact that I can grind my own beans before brewing coffee on weekends when I have more time.
Sea Salt Iced Coffee Recipe
The Sea Salt Coffee at 85°c is one of my favorite coffee indulgences. So I decided to do a bit of research to find out how they make their salted cream. The recipe itself is easy, but the trick is whipping the cream to the right consistency. I decided to omit the dusting of cocoa powder that is characteristic of their sea salt coffee. Once you have brewed your coffee with Keurig’s K-Duo Essentials Single Serve & Carafe Coffee Maker, chill in the refrigerator before making this Sea Salt Iced Coffee Recipe.
- 32 ounces freshly brewed coffee chilled
- 8 ounces heavy whipping cream
- 1/2 tsp sea salt to taste
- simple syrup if desired
-
Whip the cream until thick, but do not allow stiff peaks to form
-
Stir in the salt
-
Sweeten coffee with simple syrup, if desired
-
Serve chilled coffee over ice
-
Top with salted cream
While I gave some recommendations as to the amount of sugar and salt to add to your Sea Salt Iced Coffee, I recommend adjusting each to your liking. I prefer a coffee that is less sweet, so I don’t sweeten my coffee with simple syrup.
