Three years ago, the remarkable (and true) story of a bottlenose dolphin, rescued off the coast of Florida and taken in by the Clearwater Marine Aquarium touched the hearts of audiences across the globe in Dolphin Tale. People come from near and far to see Winter, who lost her tail after becoming entangled with a rope attached to a crab trap. Winter still resides at the Clearwater and swims with a prosthetic tale, often found to be an inspiration for children and adults with medical conditions and disabilities.
With true-t0-life stories of survival, a sequel isn’t necessarily guaranteed or even foreseen. But when Winter’s elderly surrogate mother Panama dies, Winter begins to exhibit behavior typically exhibited by those who have suffered a loss. Without a poolmate, Winter cannot legally be housed alone since dolphins are social in nature. Time is running out to find a companion for Winter, and without a poolmate, she will have to be moved to another aquarium. That is until a baby dolphin cleverly named Hope is rescued and brought to Clearwater. But will the two get along in order to keep Winter at Clearwater with those who know her best?
Dolphin Tale 2 will inspire families once again this Fall when the film opens on September 12th, 2014. This guide features activities that will help children in grades 3-5 learn about marine animals, dolphin anatomy and communication, and basic oceanography.

I learned that you can actually “adopt” a dolphin through the Wildlife Federation – I think that is really cool! I would like to see this movie because my son & I watched the trailer together & it looks like a fun & interesting movie. He loves anything about animals, so I’m sure we’ll both enjoy it.

I didn’t see the first movie but now I want to see both of them. I love animals! The dolphin with the prosthetic tail made me think of a penguin we have in our local zoo with a boot to help him swim better!

I missed the first one when it came out and my daughter has told me I need to watch it! I will probably wait until the 2nd one comes out on dvd and have a Dolphin Tale movie night. I might even try to find a copy of Flipper and throw a mini dolphin-themed party!
