Last year, Marvel Studios brought the story of Stan Lee’s Doctor Strange to life on-screen. The film is based on the comic book superhero created by artist Steve Ditko, and follows the story of a neurosurgeon who loses the ability to use his hands after a tragic car accident. His search to find a cure leads him to Kamar-Taj, where he discovers the mystical arts. Not solely just a place for healing, Kamar-Taj is the front line for a battle against unseen dark forces intent on destroying all reality. Doctor Strange must decide whether he will return to his former life of wealth and status or forego it to defend the world as the most powerful sorcerer in existence.
Doctor Strange was first introduced in the comic book Strange Tales in 1963 and was created to bring a new kind of character along with themes of mysticism to Marvel Comics. While Doctor Strange has been featured in video games, animated TV shows and films, he made his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe last year, portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch. Audiences can expect to see Doctor Strange in Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War and a sequel, which is currently untitled.
