Doctor On Demand Offers Affordable, Virtual Medical Visits From Your Home

{I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Doctor On Demand. I received a free trial coupon code to facilitate my review as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation}

It was a Friday evening at 5 pm when I received the call that my son had fallen off of a skateboard.  I wasn’t overly concerned, presuming his injury was likely a bruise, a scrape or even perhaps a sprain. But something nagging inside me questioned what I would do if in fact he had a fracture. It was Friday evening and my Pediatrician’s office had just closed. When I picked him up from his playdate, my maternal instinct and nursing background prompted me to take him to our local urgent care where it was confirmed he indeed had a fracture.

Video Medical Visit

Illness and injury often occur in the middle of the night or over the weekend when our doctors are not  available. Even as a nurse, I’ve found myself sitting in an Urgent Care with my son or daughter for lengthy periods of time only to have them confirm my presumed diagnosis of a cold, an ear infection, or even new molars.  With technology continuing to innovate the field of medicine, I was incredibly intrigued when I first heard about the ability to “see” a physician without leaving my home.

What is Doctor On Demand?

Doctor On Demand is a brand new way to treat non-urgent medical conditions through a video visit. Through this service, you have access to Board-Certified Physicians, Pediatricians, Psychologists, and Lactation Consultants to help diagnose medical issues and provide a treatment plan. Each physician visit requires a flat fee and visits for more complicated sessions with a psychologist or a lactation consultant are based on the length of the visit. Even the most costly visit is under $100 (half the national average)  making this service incredibly affordable for families with high co-pays or those without insurance.

Here is a short video detailing this innovative new service:

How Do I Schedule a Video Visit?

One of the most compelling reasons to use Doctor on Demand is the flexibility to see a licensed provider on your schedule from the comfort of your home. You can access the service via your desktop or laptop computer, smartphone, or tablet using the Doctor on Demand app. Before you schedule your visit, I recommend browsing the list of symptoms treated to ensure you do not delay seeking treatment for a more urgent medical issue. Some of the most common issues treated include colds, flu, skin issues and rashes, sports injuries and post-travel medical concerns.

Once you’ve accessed the site via computer, smartphone, or tablet, you’ll be asked a series of questions regarding the reason for your visit (including current symptoms) and some information about your current health and medications. You can schedule your appointment with a provider for a future time or “see” a physician immediately. After your appointment is scheduled, remember that there is a 4-hour cancellation window.  You will also receive a text message prior to your visit indicating your provider is ready for the call. Before your video visit, be sure you’ve allowed your device to share your location and have access to your camera. Each visit is allotted a 15-minute time frame where you can speak to a provider regarding your current concerns, so ensure you are prepared and ready to maximize that time.

What Are the Benefits of Using Doctor On Demand?

Securing a visit with my physician or my children’s pediatrician can be challenging, particularly during cold and flu season. There have been days when we could not be seen for a day or two, given that the symptoms were not perceived to be urgent. I really like the flexibility of scheduling a video visit with a licensed professional at a time that is convenient for our family. I also appreciate having access to a professional at a price that is affordable and perhaps less than the amount of our current co-pay. If you know your symptoms are minor and don’t require emergent care but they are bothersome enough to need treatment, Doctor On Demand can be of tremendous value. If families can make use of this type of service, I foresee a decline in visits to urgent and emergent cares, thereby saving time and resources.

Right now, Doctor On Demand is offering free first-time visits (a $40 value!). Simply use the code ROCKIN15 during the scheduling/check out process.  It should be noted that while you will be asked to provide a credit card, you will not be charged for the first visit.
