When I found out I was having a little girl, I imagined all of the things we’d do together… From playing with dolls and painting each other’s nails, to drinking tea and reading stories, I made mental lists of those things I loved doing with my own mother to share with my daughter. I had hoped that one of those moments of bonding and togetherness would be our time spent doing her hair. As a lively preschooler, she isn’t shy about voicing her likes and dislikes, and one of our constant challenges has been her hair routine. The combination of fine and curly hair means it tangles easily, making combing and styling a constant struggle. After trying countless detangling products, I finally found s system that works…Johnson’s No More Tangles.
Last month, I spent a joyful, play-filled afternoon with Johnson’s No More Tangles, creating memories with my daughter and learning how to help her feel beautiful. One of my daughter’s favorite activities was creating her own hair accessories, so we decided to continue doing this at home. I’m always trying to improve my crafting skills but I don’t have a ton of time to spend executing ideas from scratch, I used Creativity for Kids Fashion Headbands kit. But first, we needed to tackle detangling my daughter’s hair.
I’ve tried all types of hair care products, both for adults and children, none of which effectively tackled my daughter’s tangles. But having grown up with Johnson’s Baby, I had confidence that their 3-step hair care regimen would be effective.
There are 3 products in the line including a combination Shampoo & Conditioner, Leave In Conditioner, and a Detangling Spray. Previously, I had been using a separate shampoo and conditioner and I really like that I only have to use one product during bath-time. The leave-in conditioner is fabulous for getting her hair smooth and actually helped with most of the knots. As I mentioned earlier, she has curly hair so the tangles can be very difficult. The Detangling Spray made getting those stubborn knots out seamless. There have been many tears shed during our detangling, but the very first evening we used No More Tangles, there were also No More Tears.
After I combed through and dried my daughter’s hair, we got to work on creating our DIY Hair Accessories. The kit we received includes satin headbands in an array of colors, rhinestones, flowers, feathers, ribbon, glue and more. Each of us created a headband for my daughter and it was a fun, creative bonding activity that she loved and wants to make continue to do regularly. More and more she is beginning to view our time washing, combing, and styling her hair as something positive rather than something to be afraid of.
I often watch my daughter looking at herself in the mirror and I hope that I’m helping instill self-confidence within her and to recognize that she is beautiful both inside and out. I love these moments of bonding between the two of us and I only hope that continues as she grows and matures into a young woman.
If you have a daughter, I hope that the simple routine of washing, combing and styling her hair is transformed into one that is special and offers the opportunity to share and grow and connect.
