One of my goals this year is to prepare a majority of our meals at home Not only is it more affordable than our expensive taste in restaurants, it’s healthier, since I am in control of the ingredients. As part of our focus on wellness, we’re also aiming to get in the recommended amounts of fruits and veggies. All four of us struggle with consistent consumption of vegetables, so my husband and I discussed the option of “drinking” them instead. We like the freshly squeezed juices available at juice bars in our neighborhood, but they’re expensive and easily replicated at home with the right kitchen appliance!
The hubby and I recently started “juicing.” Breville’s Juice Fountain makes it easy to enjoy fresh-squeezed juices in minutes. Simply wash, peel, and seed your desired fruits. You don’t necessarily have to cut each piece to size, as long as it fits in the feed chute. Once your juice has collected in the juice jug, you can opt to include froth in your juice (which I prefer!) by removing the lid during pouring (the froth collects in the lid if you prefer not include that in your juice).
FYI: You can’t taste the carrots. But I can’t say the same thing about celery!
Breville’s Juice Fountain features a circular feed tube that processes whole fruit, a stainless steel cutting disc surrounded by Italian made micro mesh filter to extract up to 30% more juice and 40% more vitamins and minerals than other juicers, and removable, dishwasher-safe parts. I like it’s compact design, which saves counter space and it’s quick, efficient juicing properties. I also appreciate the fact that I can throw the parts in the dishwasher for easy clean-up (it’s more difficult to wash the parts by hand than it is to just throw them in the dishwasher) . I’d like to suggest that you hand wash the food pusher as I’ve found that water collects inside with no way of getting it out.
If you look at the picture above, you’ll notice that quite a bit of pulp remains in the container. Please don’t throw it away! If you’re you’re not going to consume it (which you totally can), at least compost it. We decided to make a variation of a Carrot Muffin recipe we found on Joy of Baking (which happens to be one of my favorite sites for recipes). We omitted the nuts and coconut and used the fruit pulp from the juice in place of the grated carrots and apples. But wait…it gets better! We halved the recipe and made a “vegan” variation for my dairy and egg-allergic son. We substituted pureed banana for the eggs and even made frosting he could eat. We used vegan butter, rice milk, and confectioner’s sugar! The verdict? They were delicious!
There are so many uses for this juicer and the manual that comes with it is very resourceful offering tips on purchasing, storing, and preparing fruits and vegetables for juicing. Also included are a number or recipes for juices, soups, desserts, and more. I had no idea how versatile this juicer would be. If you’re looking to create healthy dishes or simply incorporate more fruits and veggies into your diet, a juicer is a great product to have on hand.
Breville’s Juice Fountain is available online for $99.79 with free shipping from CSN Stores.
