Making my children’s baby food was something I had aspired to do for months before they both started eating. But we live in a society of convenience and it was so much easier to buy frozen and jarred baby food. Convenience comes at a cost…and after a visit to my pediatrician last week, I’m aiming to start making more of my daughter’s food.
When my son was born, I couldn’t find products that worked well and I often resorted to our food processor. It’s been three years and products like this Fresh Food Mill make it quick, easy, and convenient for moms like me to make fresh baby food.
Annabel Karmel knows a thing or two about making baby food. She’s only written 22 books on food and nutrition for babies and kids! I met Annabel last year while she was visiting in LA from the UK. This mother of three “is an expert in devising tasty and nutritious meals for children without the need for parents to spend hours in the kitchen.” So partnering with Infantino to create a line of products to help parents make and store freshly made baby food was naturally brilliant.
We recently started using the Fresh Food Mill to puree foods for my daughter. We’ve put everything from fruits and vegetables to meats in the Food Mill. Not only can I quickly and easily prepare a variety of fresh foods for my daughter, I can give her the same foods we’re eating in a pureed form.
The Food Mill is suitable for babies 6 months and older and ideal for pureeing fruits and vegetables. It’s much easier to customize your baby’s meals to his/her liking and needs and you control the ingredients. You’ll save money on store-bought, prepared baby foods.
If you’re out and about, you can still prepare fresh meals with Annabel Karmel’s Mash & Serve Bowl. Simply place fruit or steamed vegetables in the bowl and use the masher to achieve your desired consistency. Breast milk or formula can be added to help bring the fruit/veggies together. I find that this works best for soft foods while the Food Mill works well for meats, potatoes and corn.
My three year old has been eating the foods we eat for several years now. We never got into the habit of feeding him a separate “kid’s meal,” something common among parents in our society. Despite the fact that we’ve been feeding my son vegetables since he was a baby, it’s still a struggle. We’ve steamed, baked, and roasted vegetables with a variety of different seasonings and dipping sauces. However, one of the easiest and healthiest ways to prepare veggies is to steam them. This typically requires a steamer…but vegetables can also be steamed in the microwave. Annabel Karmel’s Steam Release Micro Dish offers a way to steam fruits and vegetables while retaining vital nutrients. The lid includes a valve system which lets steam out of the container. The container holds about a serving and can be closed for airtight storage. My daughter isn’t quite ready for whole fruits and veggies (even if they’re steamed and softened) but I’ve found that this works great for my son.
Annabel Karmel’s Make It Easy line of feeding products gives parents a quick, affordable way to make their own food. Each product includes a set of Annabel Karmel’s recipes to help parents get started. She also wrote a book called Top 100 Baby Purees which I’ve just added to my Amazon book list for purchase. Annabel Karmel’s Make It Easy line is currently available at Babies R Us.
I am a participant in a Mom Central campaign for Infantino and have received various Infantino products as part of my participation.

I made most of the baby food for Hayden & Trevor. I did buy the occasional item from the store for on the go, or for things that never came out right when I made them (like peas). It was fun, and I think as a result my children are much better eaters!
