A female heroine with vibrant red ringlets…a fairy tale set deep in the Scottish Highlands…a quest to find the true meaning of courage…
This is Brave.
My passion for film and dream to visit the studio where some of our family’s favorite animated films were created converge in San Francisco this week where I’ll spend 3 days with Disney and Pixar, in anticipation of the summer 3D adventure film.
When I first learned that Pixar was creating a new 3D animated film set in the only other country I’ve called home, I was intrigued and excited. The story follows Merida, the female lead in the film (a first for Pixar) with striking red hair and endless curls, as she defies “age-old customs,” determined to create her own destiny. Along the way, she discovers true bravery.
According to Forbes, the film will showcase Pixar’s best animation to date, and from the trailer and stills, I’m completely awestruck. The film will combine adventure, humor, and heart…something Pixar has perfected with it’s previous films.
During my time in San Francisco, I’ll have an opportunity to screen the Academy Award nominated short film La Luna, some footage from Brave, and Disneynature’s Chimpanzee (in anticipation of my upcoming red carpet coverage), tour Pixar Animation Studios and interview the incredibly talented animators behind the film Brave, and tour the Walt Disney Family Museum (which has been on my bucket list for years!).
Here is a trailer from the film:
If you could ask the animators anything, what would it be?
No compensation was received for this post. I was invited to San Francisco, courtesy of Disney and Pixar. All travel expenses provided.

You are lucky to visit Pixar studios. They do have a very talented pool of artists. I love all of their movies, well except for the Cars series, I just could’t get into the movie. But I am definitely looking forward to seeing Brave. It looks amazing.

Love it…great question Kim…thank you!

I guess I’d also like to know the inspiration. Having a heroine as a roll model for girls is awesome. I know I’m kinda princess’ed out 🙂

Where does their passion for creating animation come from? What specific incident in their life spark the desire to seek animation as a career?

So glad, finally a woman is the heroe, that’s how it is in real life right?

I think that what the animators get to do is just so much fun and I’m amazed at the art. But I know that there’s a lot of really small detail to create in these films that sometimes take years to make, so I’d love to know how they feel about the tediousness of the job compared to the dream of it they may have had when they were younger.

I”m so amazed at how much animation has progressed! My daughters are so excited to see this movie!
Catalina says
I want my niece to see this movie! For the animators: I want to know what some of the challenges they have when developing the characters and along the way while creating the film.
