Disney Junior Launches With Captain Hook, Poetry, and a Focus On Healthy Living

Posted by Caryn Bailey 1 Comment

Two weeks ago, we were invited to the Walt Disney Studios Lot for a sneak peek of the brand new animated series, Jake and the Never Land Pirates, which debuts today on Disney Junior.  My son, who is an avid Playhouse Disney fan, has been talking about the new “pirate show” for weeks!

Disney Junior, formerly Playhouse Disney, is a learning-focused channel specifically designed to appeal to children ages 2-7 and their families.  While many of the shows enjoyed by children like Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Handy Manny will continue to air, Disney Junior debuts with several new series including Mickey Mousekersize and Special Agent Oso: Three Healthy Steps, Babar and the Adventures of Badou, Tinga Tinga Tales, and a series of Disney Poetry Shorts showcasing poems for children set against classic Disney animation.

We as a family, are very excited about this new direction and the focus on learning and healthy living.  Disney Junior’s animated and live action series will expose to children to early math, language skills, healthy eating, and social skills.  As I mentioned earlier, my son is very excited about Jake and the Never Land Pirates, an animated series which bring kids at home along in the adventures of Jake and his crew of kid pirates.  The show is highly interactive and engages kids in the stories.  The addition of a toned down Captain Hook and his sidekick Smee from Peter Pan will draw parents who have fond memories of the film, into the show.  With catchy sayings like Yo Ho Ho, adorable, relatable characters, and a pirate band, the show is sure to be a hit.  Jake and the Never Land Pirates airs on Disney Junior at 8:30/7:30 central.
