Growing up, it was just the three of us. My extended family is spread out across the US so our holidays weren’t always traditional. Some years we traveled, but mostly we stayed home, relaxed, and spent quality time together. I don’t remember when we started the tradition, but going to see a newly release film on Christmas Day became something we all looked forward to. We’d wake up early to exchange gifts, grab an early lunch, and head to our local theater for the latest release. It’s a tradition I hope to share with my children as they become old enough to enjoy it.
This Christmas, DreamWorks will release War Horse, a film based on the book by Michael Morpurgo and stage play by Nick Stafford. Directed by Steven Spielberg, the film depicts a story of “loyalty, hope and tenacity” in rural England and Europe during World War I.
Against the backdrop of war-torn Europe, the film follows the journey of a horse named Joey and the young man Albert who trained and befriended him. Despite the hurdles he’ll have to overcome, Albert endeavors to find and bring him home after they’re forcefully separated.
I haven’t read the book yet, but I’m told that I might cry. A lot. The story seems powerful and moving I’m very excited about seeing the film. So much so that I’m going all the way to New York City to see it!
Next month, I’m heading to New York for the red carpet premiere of War Horse thanks to Disney and DreamWorks. I’ll also be viewing Beauty and the Beast in 3D which I’m so excited about because I absolutely love the film.
Since Christmas seems so far away still, I’ve got my sights set on The Muppets at present, which opens November 23rd. Stay tuned as I have a hilarious and adorable interview with Amy Adams, Jason Segel, Miss Piggy, Kermit, and the newest Muppet…Walter!
No compensation was received for this post. I was invited to cover the red carpet premiere in New York City and all travel associated costs will be provided by Disney and DreamWorks.
