We’re right in the midst of cold and flu season, and I’ve been tapping into my arsenal of immune boosting resources to ensure our family stays healthy and illness-free this Fall and Winter. As a child, my mother used to give me cranberry juice whenever I started to feel sick. Even way back then she knew how exceptional this particular fruit is.
Here are some fun and interesting facts even I didn’t know about the cranberry (via Ocean Spray):
- If you strung together all the cranberries produced in North America last year, they would stretch from Boston to Los Angeles more than 565 times.
- The key ingredient to making sure cranberry sauce gels is pectin. Cook the sauce for at least 10 minutes at a full boil to release it.
- Cranberries are rich in antioxidants and have more naturally occurring antioxidants per gram than other common fruit.
- You can taste the healthy goodness of the cranberry. PACs, or proanthocyanadins, are responsible for cranberry’s tart taste and give them a healthy edge.
- Eight ounces of cranberry juice cocktail, 1/2 cup of fresh cranberries and 1/4 cup of dried cranberries or cranberry sauce each provide the same urinary tract health benefits.
If you will be in New York today and tomorrow (October 16th & 17th), you can visit the “Taste and Tell” video booth in Rockefeller Center to sample Ocean Spray’s juice drinks and Craisins’ Dried Cranberries and record a video testimonial about how the taste of those drinks and cranberries make you feel. If you share your taste testimonial on Twitter, you could win a $100 Ocean Spray gift pack! Here are the details for the New York event:
