My son was introduced to POKÉMON through a friend at school, and very quickly I found myself aiding his quest to find the highly sought out trading cards. What started as a Nintendo Game Boy video game has evolved into a franchise that spans video games, trading cards, board games, and now a live-action film. Detective Pikatchu is the first-ever live-action POKÉMON adventure and is now playing in ScreenX at select theaters nationwide.

Detective Pikachu
In the first-ever live-action adventure, Detective Pikachu brings the world of Pokémon to life. The film stars Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu, the iconic face of the global phenomenon along with Justice Smith, Kathryn Newton, Suki Waterhouse, Omar Chaparro, Chris Geere, Ken Watanabe, and Bill Nighy.
The story, inspired by The Great Detective Pikachu video game, begins with the mysterious disappearance of detective Harry Goodman. This prompts his 21 year old son Tim to find out what happened to him. Assisted by Harry’s former Pokemon partner, Detective Pikachu, the two find that they are unique equipped to work together as Tim is the only human who can talk to Pikachu. As the adorable, hilarious super-sleuth who’s often a puzzlement even to himself, Pikachu joins forces with Tim to unravel the mysterious disappearance.
Set in the modern metropolis of Ryme City, the two chase clues in this hyper-realistic world where humans and Pokemon live side-by-side. As the story continues, the two encounter a wide array of Pokemon characters, each with their own unique abilities and personalities. When Tim and Pikachu uncover a plot that could destroy the peaceful co-existence, threatening the Pokémon universe, they must work together to stop the growing threat and find out exactly what happened to Detective Goodman.
POKÉMON
Pokémon launched in 1996, quickly becoming a global sensation, spanning a widely popular video game, trading card games available in 11 languages, an anime TV series now in its 21st season, over 20 animated films, books, manga comics, music, toys, merchandise, and apps (including Pokémon GO). This is the first live-action Pokémon adventure and brings the franchise to life, showcasing some of fans most beloved characters. F
ScreenX
The film was absolutely phenomenal, and my son, who is an avid Pokémon fan, loved seeing his favorite characters come to life. We saw the film in ScreenX, which offers audiences an innovative, multi-projection theatre experience that extends the screen to the auditorium walls. The format is one of the most immersive ways to view a film, transforming the entire movie theater experience.
In select theaters nationwide, ScreenX surrounds audiences with a 270-degree panoramic visual, which puts you in the center of the action. The thrill of flying to space or exploring the depths of the ocean offer a visual thrill unlike any other form of theater technology.
One of the things I really appreciated about seeing the film in ScreenX was the fact that I really felt immersed in the film and yet, it didn’t feel unnatural. In Detective Pikachu, the 270-degree viewing experience allows audiences to see Pokemon pop up everywhere across the three screens. Epic battles place audiences in the middle of the arena, while Detective Pikachu’s lightning attacks strike from the left and right panels as the action unfolds across the main screen. ScreenX allows for more creative possibilities to tell the story and is the world’s first multi-projection theater technology used within a theatre setting.
