Throughout my childhood, I had 4 dogs. We adopted each one from a shelter and kept them until they lived out their life. So it seems odd that at present, we don’t have a furry friend in our home. My son has asked on occasion about why we don’t have a dog. I typically tell him that when he gets older (and mommy isn’t so hectic trying to juggle two little ones) we’ll consider adopting a dog into our home.
Do you remember playing with virtual pets? Well technology has evolved so much since that time. My son and I have been playing with our own little canine friend! Earlier this week we downloaded the brand new (and totally free) iPhone app Cube Dog, which allows users to create their very own customizable virtual dog. Once you’re finished, you can play with your new best friend who can laugh, do tricks, and even play baseball! Check out the dog I created (who’s yet to be named…suggestions?).
Creating your new best friend is super easy! Select from more than 1.3 million combinations (whoa!) which include the color, head, body, nose, eyes, ears, and feet. The best part? Your new friend is in 3D!
The app, although likely geared towards children, is actually fun and could be played by tweens, teens, and adults. Part of the fun is being able to create your very own dog. I think I could spend quite a bit of time getting him just right. Unlike most virtual pets, Cube Dog offers a 3D version which makes the experience that much more interactive. You can rotate your dog and zoom in and out along with the other 3D animations.
Cube Dog can perform more than 40 tricks although I’m honestly still learning how to find them all. It’s adorable when he sleeps, calls on the phone, and giggles. Both my son and I think that the ability to take pictures with our furry friend is the best part of the app. My son keeps asking me to take pictures of him with our little dog because he thinks it’s hilarious.
If you’re interested in purchasing additional parts/animations, you can do so for a nominal fee ($0.99-$2.99). The app is currently available for the iPhone (3GS/4) and the iPod Touch (3rd and 4th generation).
Be sure to follow Cube Dog on Facebook for a fun summer contest the week of June 13th-17th!
While Cube Dog provided me with the app to review, the opinions I’ve expressed here are solely my own and represent my honest viewpoint. Cube Dog, Clever Girls Collective and I promote Blog With Integrity.
