I remember the excitement I felt when my mother first introduced me to makeup because I’m already seeing it in my daughter…and she’s two! She looks at me with wide eyes, curious about what mommy is putting on her eyes and lips. She’ll often ask, “I want some,” and I’ll take my powder brush and gently brush it across her cheeks as she giggles. I’m amazed that even at her age, she has that natural inclination towards wanting to look and feel beautiful.
Before I had children, I would not leave the house without going through my makeup regime. I suffered from minor complexion problems during my teen and young adult years, so very often I was “covering” up as opposed to enhancing my natural features. After a brief moment in my life when I simply didn’t have time to go through the process of applying moisturizer/sunscreen, foundation, powder, eye shadow, eye liner, mascara, and lipstick, I decided that wearing even a little bit of makeup was something I needed to do for myself because it helps me to feel confident about my appearance. Once again, I carved in an extra 15-20 minutes of “makeup ” time.
A few years ago, I was introduced to e.l.f.‘s fabulously affordable line of makeup. Interestingly enough, I met some of the reps from the brand at BlogHer 3 years ago, and had an opportunity to get hands on with their products on the spot. After using them during the conference and when I returned home, I hosted an in-home party with several of my close girl friends to highlight the quality of their makeup lines. All of e.l.f’s cosmetics are made with quality ingredients, accessible (both online and in-stores), offered at affordable prices, and designed to enhance a woman’s beauty.
While my makeup regime hasn’t changed much, I have my abbreviated routine…the one I use when I have to get ready and get out of the house with the kids quickly. Regardless of what I’m doing, I always apply a combination moisturizer/sunscreen, a light foundation, a mineral powder, eyeshadow, and lipstick. When I have time, I’ll include eyeliner, mascara, blush, and a bronzer. Since I’m always looking for staple makeup items, I headed over to e.l.f.’s online store to check out their latest product offerings. A few years back, I was introduced to mineral makeup, and while I can’t say that every product I own is mineral-based, I’m definitely moving in that direction. Natural beauty is “in” and I find that this type of makeup works well with my skin. I also appreciate the fact that this particular line is free from parabens, preservatives, and chemical dyes. e.l.f. has an impressive selection of mineral makeup, including eye shadows and liners, lip glosses and liners, cleansers, concealers, foundation, bronzers and more! I was so impressed. The most difficult part of shopping was narrowing down the items to just $30 worth of products. Here is the look I created with the e.l.f. products I purchased:
