The holiday shopping season is here, which means I’m already “Googling” Black Friday ads to prepare for one of the busiest shopping weeks of the season. While I might make a few purchases before Black Friday, it isn’t until that week that I really get serious about my shopping. Both of my kids have lists that include the most popular toys of the season, so ensuring I get those items at the best price is an important part of my Black Friday plan.
During my childhood, Black Friday deals could really only be secured the day after Thanksgiving and I remember waking up before dark with my mom to shop before the crowds. As Black Friday began earlier and earlier, it seemed like I could not get in early enough to secure the deals I really wanted which is why I am very excited about Walmart’s New Black Friday approach! The brand made several announcements this week which will help families shop when and where it is convenient for them, while still ensuring the lowest prices of the season. With FIVE full days of in-store and online shopping events, deals on some of the largest and most popular brands/licenses, 1-Hour Guarantee, and specific, targeted plans to make the in-store shopping experience as seamless as possible, Walmart presents its new Black Friday!

What is 1-Hour Guarantee?
If you’ve ever shopped during Black Friday, you know how frustrating it can be to wait in line for an advertised product, only to find out it is sold out. Walmart introduced its 1-Hour Guarantee to help customers who want to purchase specific, deeply discounted items secure those items.
How does it work?
Arrive in a designated area of your Walmart store between 6 pm and 7 pm on Thursday, November 27th and you’ll be able to purchase the gift you want (from the 9 items being offered) and take it home that night or receive it at the store before Christmas. Simply bring your 1-Hour Guarantee ticket to the checkout lane to pay for the item. Visit Walmart.com before 12:59 pm ET on December 1st, 2014 to enter the transaction code from the receipt. You can then choose the store you’d like to pick up the item from before Christmas. All you will need to pick up the item (and any corresponding Walmart Gift Cards) is your receipt.
Here are the items that will be featured this year:
- 50” Class LED HDTV for $218 ($180 savings)
- Vizio 65” Class Smart LED HDTV for $648 ($350 savings)
- Apple iPad Mini 16GB with Wi-Fi for $199 with a $30 Walmart Gift Card ($70 value)

How to Navigate the In-Store Shopping Experience at Walmart:
Admittedly, the main deterrents to shopping in-stores on Black Friday (or the days before and after) are the crowds and lines. I can remember finding items at fantastic prices, only to put them back because I did not want to wait in line. This year, Walmart has continued to improve their shopping experience both online and in-stores. Here is a plan that will help you prepare to shop during Walmart’s 5 days of Black Friday Deals:
1. Spend some time browsing Walmart’s interactive circular online. Not only will you find product reviews, how-to tutorials, and buyer’s guides, you can get an idea of what will be on sale so you can begin making a plan of what you’d like to purchase.
2. Pick up a store map (or view it on your mobile device with the Walmart app) so you know where the 1-Hour Guarantee items, wristband items and other hot products will be located in your specific store. You can also plan ahead by viewing your store map on Walmart.com beginning November 18th, 2014.
3. KNOW which items you’ll need a wristband for and plan to head to the area where these will be located first since you won’t be able to purchase these products without it. Products include Beats Pill, Nabi 2 Tablet and iPad Air.
4. Don’t forget to input your recipes into Savings Catcher!
Knowing that long lines can be a deterrent for shoppers, Walmart sought to create a faster, more convenient shopping experience by introducing Checkout Promise this year. Between the weekend of November 22nd and every weekend through Christmas, Walmart will open more checkout lanes between the hours of 12 pm and 6 pm at Supercenters and stores that offer electronics, apparel, toys, etc. Walmart will also open additional lanes the day before Thanksgiving (November 26th) and during the days leading up to Christmas (December 20th through 24th).
If you’re planning to shop Black Friday, you’ll find it helpful to spend a bit of time preparing to make the most of your time. Use this Guide to Black Friday Shopping at Walmart for gift ideas, to make holiday shopping lists, and to plan your shopping trip so that you can spend the time leading up to Christmas with the people who are most important to you.
