Much to my delight (no sarcasm noted whatsoever), my son LOVES to play in the sand at the park. And it just so happens that less than 2 minutes from our house is a lovely little play area, complete with sand. Actually, sand play has educational benefits like helping to develop motor, spatial, and social skills. This type of open-ended play “allows children the freedom to build and strengthen development of their small and large muscle motor skills, hand-eye coordination, mathematical vocabulary, and socialization skills.” I do remember how much fun I had digging tunnels and building sand castles at the beach with my mom. So despite the fact that it’s messy, I still encourage my son to play in our community play and sand area. The crazy thought has even crossed my mind that it might be nice to invest in a sandbox. If we do decide to do this, I know what type of sand I want to fill it with!
Crayola, the company that’s brought color and creativity to your child’s world, just introduced their high quality Play Sand. We received a sample pack to check out the colors and textures, courtesy of Crayola. The first thing you’ll notice is that the colors are vibrant and are certain to appeal to children. My son saw the sample package and immediately wanted to play with it. Once you actually feel the texture, it’s hard to believe it’s sand because it’s so soft. The company guarantees the sand won’t stain or discolor your hands, although there is no mention of what is used to dye the sand. Colored sand is a unique way of brightening up your child’s sandbox. It also makes for some great art projects (which we’re going to do with the samples we received).
Crayola Play Sand is available in 20 pound bags at Walmart for $6.47 and is available in pink, purple, blue, and green.
