Winter is not over yet and while my son loves to be outside, there are some days where it’s just too cold. A week or so ago we had some strong storms and I was struggling to find something to do with my son other than play and TV. We like to go to museums and other indoor places, but sometimes it’s nice (and more affordable) to just stay at home. Playing is very important for children but I’ve noticed that my son gets bored with his toys (particularly when we’re in most of the day). He’s started to become really interested in crayons and coloring so I decided to pull out the ColorMe Pillowcase we received from the ColorMe Company. I want to start by saying that while the recommended age for this project is older than the actual age of my son, I found that we were able to complete the project together. Here is a little more about ColorMe Company from the site (I encourage you to read his entire inspirational story on the site):
ColorMe Company was founded by Dr. Paul Marciano who was inspired by his goddaughter’s coloring on a Christmas card. After realizing that traditional greeting cards were not fun or particularly meaningful for children, he created the coloring card, which combines the thoughtfulness of a greeting card and the fun of a coloring book. Believing in the continual process of “coloring outside the lines,” Paul, self proclaimed company CCO (Chief Coloring Officer), expanded beyond greeting cards to a line of t-shirts, pillowcases and Christmas stockings.
Children love to color. My son loves to color. I don’t care if it looks like scribbles…to me…to a mom, it’s art. I remember my son’s very first painting. To others it probably looks like a bunch of splatterings, but I was so proud of it! So when I was thinking about how we were going to complete the Mountain Sleigh Ride Pillowcase, part of me just wanted to see what he was going to do. But, I also wanted to show you how adorable this project is, so I gave him a lot of assistance (as you’ll see from the pictures). I took his hand and guided him as we colored. It took several days because his attention span is such that he becomes interested in something else rather quickly. But we finished it and it looks amazing! We had a lot of fun coloring and I can’t wait until he is a bit older so we can try a different project. If you’re looking for an activity to do on a rainy day or you just want some ideas on indoor activities, be sure to check out Color Me Company. I’m thinking about how much fun this would be for a slumber party! One of the projects I’d like to get my son this Christmas is a Snowman Christmas Stocking!
Each kit comes with one colorable project (i.e. pillowcase, t-shirt, etc.), a matching greeting card, crayons, fabric markers, and instructions. You can permanently set the ink by either ironing it (which is too labor intensive for me) or putting it in the dryer on high for 30 minutes (my preference). All of the designs are actually submitted by children which makes this an even more meaningful project for you and your child. A portion of each sale benefits one of four children’s charities. The founder’s hope is to “color the world brighter for all children.”
