Even at 4, I’m teaching my son the importance of looking both ways before crossing the street, holding my hand and not running off, and generally adhering to some basic safety principles. He knows about “buckling up” and not going into the garage or the car unless I’m with him. Similarly, my husband and I are vigilant about ensuring our children’s car seats are properly installed, checking the belts routinely to ensure they’re still fitting our children properly, taking a walk around the car before we back out of our driveway, and never leaving our children alone in the car…ever!
In conjunction with Child Passenger Safety Week, Chuggington just announced it’s partnership with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to teach children about traffic safety. The nationwide campaign is designed to teach children between the ages of 2 and 7 about safety in and around cars. Some of the key messages children will take away include the importance of wearing a bicycle helmet, looking both ways when crossing the street, and buckling up.
Parents and children can visit Chuggington’s Safety website to take the Think Safe, Ride Safe, Be Safe traffic safety pledge (we did it!). Once the pledge is taken, you can download a safety badge and a pledge certificate. On the site, you’ll also find a safety game, safety tips, activities, and videos.
Chuggington, which airs weekdays on Disney Junior, follows Wilson, Brewster, and Koko through a series of adventures as they learn important life lessons. The series is so popular among parents and children that they’ve just announced that season 3 is currently in development. The partnership with the NHTSA is a wonderful way to get children excited about traffic safety.
As you may remember, I am a member of the Totsy Mom Committee. Totsy has partnered with Chuggington to host a Mommy & Me Twitter party with Wilson, Koko, and Brewster from the series. We’ll be talking about traffic safety (of course!). The party will be held on Tuesday, September 27th from 2-3 pm EST. You can follow the hashtag #Pledge2BSafe. Be sure to take note that parents and children can tweet with the trainees during the first 15 minutes of the party.
Totsy’s Chuggington sale will begin on Monday, September 26th at 9 pm EST and will run through Friday, September 30th at 8 am EST. There will be toys, books, games, dinnerware, DVDs, costumes, and more. And be sure to visit Totsy’s Facebook page starting Tuesday to enter to win thousands of dollars worth of Chuggington products.
Disclosure: I am a member of Totsy’s Mom Committee and receive site credit to help facilitate reviews and provide honest feedback. I am also part of the Chuggington Conductor Program and receive products for review.
