This giveaway is now closed. Congrats to the winners: Lori A, Cheryl, and susanlanai!
Two weeks ago, we visited Chuck E. Cheese’s for the very first time. You might be thinking…how is it that you’ve never ever taken your children to the famed family entertainment center? But then you might remember that my son has food allergies…hence the missed childhood experience.
So why now? A few weeks before our visit, the mother of a child my son is friends with asked me if she could invite him to a birthday party in April…at Chuck E. Cheese’s. My instinct was to tell her no. But I started thinking about how many birthday parties (including several of my own) I had attended as a child at the venue and realized that I won’t be able to continue saying no. I want my son to have friends…to spend time with them…to go to their birthday parties. I want to offer my son normalcy in spite of his food allergies.
In preparation for this upcoming party, I decided that we were going to visit as a family so I could scope out the atmosphere and determine how comfortable my son was going to be (both with the food and the type of entertainment available). Coincidentally, I received an email around that time, alerting me to the fact that the establishment was changing their pizza recipe for the first time in 30 years, so I agreed to check it out and post about our experience.
In many ways, the nationally recognized leader in family dining and entertainment was just like I remembered it. When we walked in, each of us were hand-stamped, which impressed me, because in order for a child to leave the facility, they have to leave with a parent who possesses the matching hand-stamp. We were greeted with a spacious arcade area and open seating for dining. While we did see Chuck E. Cheese himself live, the particular location we visited no longer had the famous show I remember enjoying as a child. Is this the case with all Chuck E. Cheese locations?
The menu itself primarily consists of pizza although sandwiches, salads, and a few sides are available. I realize that most children’s parties will only have pizza, so we had decided to bring him vegan pizza. Consequently, if your child suffers from food allergies, their website offers a comprehensive look at the ingredients used in menu items.
Speaking of pizza, Chuck E. Cheese recently changed it’s recipe for the first time in 30 years. The “cheesier, crispier, tastier” pizza features fresh-made dough, zesty pizza sauce, and 100% natural mozzarella cheese. I can’t say that I remember the former pizza, but their current version was tasty with a soft crust. My husband and I ordered a veggie pizza and it included a generous assortment of tomatoes, green peppers, and onions.
If I didn’t have a child who suffers from food allergies, we’d likely go more often for rainy days and indoor play days. But I feel comfortable enough sending him for the occasional friend’s birthday party…provided that I bring him his vegan pizza and stick around for the fun.
Have a question about the establishment? Their website is actually quite informative.

We have lots of memories with CEC because my son always wants to have his birthday there. So we’ve had about 6 birthdays there now. LOL My favorite memory is from his 2nd birthday and he was crazy about the whack-a-mole game. He stood there and played it over and over and over again. We got lots of video of that. 🙂

I went last year for a friend’s child’s birthday party… I made the mistake of bringing my husband with me. I think he had more fun than the kids! He beat the high score for the football game there and insisted we take a picture of him standing next to the machine. I’ve never see him more proud! haha
I love the fun games.
I remember going there for my sixth birthday part and having Chuck E. sing happy birthday to me.

The way they prepare their pizza is just the way our family likes it. Their pizza is never too brown.
I went to Chuck E Cheese so many times as a child. I remember when I lived in Plano Texas they actually had a ride in there that you sat in this seat and it took you around the whole room on it. I rode that think at least twenty times in one day. I will never ever forget that day. I had a ton of tickets too.

I have to be honest. I seem to remember Chuck E. Cheese having a bit more things to play in when my two oldest were little. After many years, we went with our two little ones last year and was a bit disappointed that it was more arcade than anything else; and, unfortunately, the pizza was not good and overcooked.
I would be willing to give their pizza another try though.
We spent my son’s first birthday there. It was very special and sweet.

Best memory has to be of my god-daughters birthday last year. She had a blast the entire time we were at CEC but as soon as it was time to sing her the happy birthday song and Chuckie came over she completely freaked out. I know it’s not ideal but it was definitely memorable and she eventually got over being scared when Chuckie handed her a slice of cake lol.

My best Chuck E. Cheese memory was when I took my daughter there for the first time. In her own words “It is the best restaurant ever!”

When my daughter was little we went to a local Chuck E Cheese and let me tell you, it is much much bigger than they usually are, it had this ginormous ball pit…..I mean really huge like a room…and my daughter was so excited and she ran and jumped in…and disappeared lol! Seriously this thing was like a pool. We had to dig down in the balls and pull her out, it was hilarious!

Watching my kids play in the ball pit for the first time. Also watching how much they all love to play skeeball.

My best memory is when we had my sons 5th birthday party at Chuck E Cheese. We invited his kindergarten class and everyone had a blast.

My best memory was the first time the kids visited. They just lit up when they entered and played the games and romped around like there was no tomorrow. They forgot they were hungry!
