With Easter just over 1 week away, I’ve been thinking about how to celebrate each of my kids modestly without overloading them with sugar. A few years ago, we created Upycled Easter Baskets with just a handful of all-natural snacks and some toys/books I knew my children would use and play with. This year, I decided to draw on their favorite characters for inspiration. It also helped that our local Walmart has an expansive selection of licensed products at crazy affordable prices. In fact, I put together each of my kids’ character-themed Easter baskets for less than $20!
My daughter loves all-things princess, so I selected an adorable Doc McStuffins square-shaped “basket” that she’ll be able to use throughout the year to store her books and toys. I used Walmart’s Easter Grass made from 100% recycled paper to “stuff” the basket and then arranged each of the items inside.
- Doc McStuffins Paperboard Bucket ($5.98)
- Easter Grass ($1.38)
- Doc McStuffins Tattoo Egg ($1.98)
- Doc McStuffins Suncatcher Activity ($1.98)
- Doc McStuffins Magnetic Activity Fun ($2.98)
- Doc McStuffins Treat Containers ($1.98)
- Purple Play-Doh ($0.50)
The cost, including the basket and the grass was under $17 plus tax which is a great deal considering each of the products feature authentic Doc McStuffins toys/activities. I personally like that my daughter will be able to use these items to craft, paint, and engage in imaginative play.
With the new Minions movie scheduled to be released in theaters this summer, I knew my son would love a Despicable Me Minion-themed basket.
- Despicable Me Paperboard Bucket ($5.98)
- Easter Grass ($1.38)
- Despicable Me Tattoo Egg ($1.98)
- Despicable Me Spinning Tops ($1.98)
- Despicable Me Glow Wand ($1.48)
- Despicable Me Pinball Game ($1.48)
- Despicable Me Light Spinner ($5.98)
- Yellow Play-Doh ($0.50)
In addition to popular characters like Doc McStuffins and Despicable Me, I saw toys, stationery, games, and activities featuring Disney’s Frozen, Sofia the First, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Paw Patrol and much more.
This year I really strived to limit the amount of candy in my kids’ Easter Baskets, but I couldn’t help but pick up some Mystery Flavored Peeps to surprise them with. My kids love all-things Peeps so I know that when I surprise them with these new mystery flavors, they’ll enjoy our little at-home taste test. Mystery Flavored Peeps are available in chicks and bunnies for just $1 at your local Walmart. **If you want to find out what the mystery flavor is, be sure to watch as it is revealed on national television before Easter.
Our baskets wouldn’t be complete without dyed eggs, so the weekend of Easter, we’ll be using Walmart’s new Spraytastic! Egg Decorating Kit available exclusively at Walmart. What’s unique about this particular kit is that you can use stencils to create some elaborate designs while mixing and matching colors.
