I was just 16 when I watched The Lion King at our local theater for the very first time. Hailed as one of the best films of all time, the 2D animated film depicts the story of Simba, a lion cub who flees the Pride Lands after the death of his father out of shame and guilt. Alone, Simba happens upon Timon, a meerkat, and Pumbaa, a warthog who befriend him. He adopts their carefree lifestyle, but as he grows up, realizes he must return to the Pride Lands and take his rightful place as king.

The film’s moving story, loveable, relatable characters, and award-winning music are what made the film the classic it is today. Today, the film was re-released in theaters in Disney Digital 3D for just 2 weeks and will be released in high-definition Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D on October 4th.

The new 3D format immerses audiences in the film and puts them face to face with the characters they love. This is the first release since the film’s debut in 1994 and I hope we get an opportunity to take my son to see it in theaters.
The Blu-ray will offer families a very special experience including picture and sound enhancements, interactive features, bonus content, and funny animated bloopers.
To celebrate the release, Disney has a ton of fun printables including activity and coloring pages, recipes, and crafts.
