Despite the wealth of information available on pregnancy, many women still feel alone and lack support during this beautiful, miraculous, joyous time. I am incredibly thankful that I wasn’t the first in my network of friends and family members to experience pregnancy because I had a number of older, wiser, and more experienced women to look to for support and education.
Five years ago, I attended the very first Pregnancy Awareness Month event at The Skirball Center in Los Angeles. Founded by Anna Getty, the organization seeks to inspire women with educational initiatives that spotlight nutrition, wellness, and nurturing during pregnancy. Each year, the organization helps faciliate a variety of celebratory, awareness-building events including their free, flagship kickoff event in Los Angeles. At the heart of the organization is a desire to bring women and mothers together for community and support.
