Southern California is home to some of the best theme parks in the country, and in my mind, only rivaled by Orlando! Once we put away the Halloween costumes and portioned out the candy, almost immediately we were surrounded by all things holiday-ish.  We’ve been celebrating for over a month now, and some of those celebrations have included our annual visit to Universal Studios Hollywood.  Having only visited Orlando, Florida twice in our lifetime, we’ve yet to visit the Universal Orlando Resort, but we’re hoping to make a family trip during the holiday season to enjoy the festivities.

Last week, the resort kicked off the holiday season which will run through January 1st, 2013.  So what can you expect at the resort? Here is a taste of all there is to do at the Universal Orlando Resort this holiday season:

Grinchmas Wholiday Spectacular

Grinchmas: Dr. Seuss’ favorite (book) comes to life throughout Seuss Landing at Universal’s Islands of Adventure.  Guests can enjoy the live stage show Grinchmas Wholiday Spectacular and meet the stars of the show including The Grinch and the Whos from Who-ville.

Additionally, guests can enjoy a special breakfast with the characters…something I think my kids would really enjoy! You can find information about this special activity on the website.

Macy's Holiday Parade at Universal Studios Florida

The Macy’s Holiday Parade:  Every evening, the streets at Universal Studios Florida are filled with larger-than-life balloons as seen in the famous New York City parade. New to the parade this year is the Nutcracker and Mouse King “trycaloons” – tandem tricycles that appear to be pedaled by whimsical balloon characters from the classic holiday tale.  As part of the parade, guests can enjoy holiday characters, floats, and a tree-lighting by Santa Claus.

Mannheim Steamroller: This popular (acclaimed?) musical group will return once again to perform some of your favorite holiday hits on the Music Plaza stage in Universal Studios on eight separate nights.

All Holiday entertainment is included is included with park admission to Universal Studios Florida.

Since the resort can understandably be busy during this time of year, guests may want to consider the Universal Express Plus Pass which allows park entry through a separate line to bypass any wait for select attractions. This pass is free when you stay at one of the three on-site hotels (Hard Rock Hotel, Loews Portofino Bay, Royal Pacific Resort) or can be purchased as an add-on to regular tickets for an additional fee.

Families vacationing at the resort may want to consider the Holiday Vacation Package which includes a 3-night stay at a nearby Universal Partner Hotel, 2-day base ticket with 3rd day FREE for both theme parks (one park per day), early park admission to experience The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and more.  This package begins at $259 per adult.

The holiday activities at the resort don’t end with Christmas.  Be sure to check out CityWalk’s New Year‟s Eve celebration which includes music, food, and more.

  8. I have never been during the holidays but it looks like a lot of fun. I love taking the kids to Suess land they love seeing all the characters in real life. My little guy has been talking about the Grinch non stop fromm watching the movie the other day. This would be such a wonderful Christmas surprise to take them!

  47. I have never been, but I would love to go and see the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, especially Hogwarts. My nephews have seen all the movies and 2 of them are train fanatics and loved the movies when they were younger, just for the train.

  70. I’ve never been on a commercial plane, I’ve never been to Florida and so naturally I’ve never Been to Orlando Universal Resort in my life. Of our 5 young adult kids our youngest daughter Amanda 19 and her live in boyfriend John had to move across the country from us to live in Georgia (we live in Michigan near our other kids) we have always been beyond a close family we are also all best friends and we miss John and Amanda terribly. We keep in touch by phone and text. If I was lucky enough to win this prize, my husband and I would book flights to orlando in March and I already Asked John and Amanda and they said they would drive from GA to FL to meet us there and we would spend an entire day at Orlando Universal Resort just soaking up each others presence and making priceless memories that we’d all cherish long after we all had to go home. Thank you for this opportunity, it fills me with great hope even having a CHANCE at this amazing generous awesome prize! And it would be a very sentimental one to us as well.

  101. My kids would really enjoy the Grinchmas Wholiday Spectacular. I’d love to see the Macy’s Holiday Parade. I really like watching the high kicking Rockettes. What a show they put on! Universal Citywalk would be a blast as well. My family and I have NEVER been on a vacation together and my husband and I have been together for 12 years. Our kids do not know what Its like to be on vacation because we’ve never had that. This would be SO COOL!! If I won I wouldn’t have to be baffled as to where to plan our vacation here soon because its finally going to happen!! =D Thanks

  111. Our favorite memory of Universal Studios is the Little Woody Woodpecker Roller Coaster. My youngest loved that ride. We also loved the Spiderman ride as well. My family would be thrilled to be able to go and visit Universal Studios Orlando again. Thank you Thank you so much for the chance. This would be such a surprise!!!! Good Luck to everyone! Woohoo!
