Just thinking about the rapidly approaching back-to-school season gives me a headache. Weren’t we just talking about how excited we were to lounge all day by the pool? If Kindergarten is the new First Grade, then I wonder what the coming year will bring when my son will be expected to read and write proficiently along with a host of other academic goals.
This time of year is filled with excitement, anticipation, anxiety, and stress (both good and bad). Shopping, organizing, and getting back into the school routine requires effort and very often children protest, compounding the situation. According to a recent survey conducted by the makers of Excedrin, 44 percent of parents with at least one child in school expect to get a headache during this time, regardless of the the fact that they are excited for their child’s new learning venture. Getting back on schedule tops the list of headache-inducing stresses during this time of year along with shopping for school supplies. I just spent the past weekend checking off items on my son’s back-to-school shopping list and the crowds, noise, and hunt for items was enough to give me a headache.
In addition to the stress of this season, comes the looming worry over our educational system. Limited funds and resources are issues my parents did not have to worry about when I was in school. Despite the availability of Charter Schools in some cities, the demand far exceeds the number of spots, compounding to the stress parents face as they strive to give their children the best learning opportunities.
This season, Excedrin is hosting a sweepstakes in which parents can enter to win $10,000 for their child’s school. There will be five winners during the Help Your School Excel With Excedrin sweepstakes and parents can enter through September 15th, 2013 via the brand’s Facebook page. Our son’s school is fortunate to have a library filled with books, a few computers, and a small garden, but I know that additional support would reduce the financial burden teachers are often faced with. What would your school do with $10,000? I encourage you to visit Facebook.com/Excedrin to enter!
Win It! One of you will win a a Back-To-School prize pack courtesy of Excedrin. Simply complete the Rafflecopter form and leave a comment with one way you handle stress during this time of year. Comments will close on September 14th, 2013 at 11:59 PM PST.
