With Halloween just a few weeks away, many families are thinking about safe, festive ways to celebrate a holiday which tends to be quite dark. Apart from traditional trick or treating, Southern California offers a number of Halloween events that are suitable for the entire family. I highly recommend checking out CBS Los Angeles for the best Halloween Events in Los Angeles, Orange County, and the Inland Empire.
We recently headed over to Knott’s Berry Farm to experience the park’s Halloween Festivities. Prior to our visit about a year ago, I had not been to the berry farm-turned theme park since I was in my 20’s. My memories of Knott’s include SCREAMING with my dad on Montezooma’s Revenge and then doing it all over again, and eating boysenberry pie at Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Restaurant. While the theme park is notorious for elaborate roller coasters with an incredible thrill factor, it’s also rich in history. During our stroll through Ghost Town, I reminisced about our school field trips to the park which always had an educational component.
For babies, tots, and preschoolers, I recommend allotting plenty of time to explore Camp Snoopy with it’s Peanuts’-themed rides and shows. Through October 30th, Camp Snoopy is transformed into Camp Spooky. Every weekend, children can don their favorite costumes for Snoopy’s Costume Party, which includes trick-or-treating, crafts, shows, and a parade. What’s great about the “party” is that it’s free with admission. At the entrance to Camp Spooky, be sure to pick up a trick-or-treat bag and a themed map to locate each treat station (you’ll need the map which will be signed off after you receive your treat at each station).
So what you can expect at Snoopy’s Costume Party this year?
Sing and dance at Peanuts Spooktacular
Find your way through Linus’ pumpkin patch to find the Great Pumpkin! (there is a great photo opp at the end of this hay maze)
Find your way through an old fashioned cornfield
Take a break and make a Halloween creation at the Camp Snoopy Craft Depot (wonderful for a little down time)
Learn all about creepy, crawly critters at the Creepy Crawly Critter Cave
Join the Monster Dance Party and Costume Parade, a festive and musical procession that runs through Camp Spooky
Tip: Be sure to visit early in the day as Camp Spooky tends to get crowded. We found that the lines were very short in the first hour or two after the park opened. Once you’ve completed Camp Spooky, you’ll have time to explore other parts of the park including my favorite, Ghost Town and Calico Square.
Snoopy’s Costume Party is going on right now through the 30th at Camp Spooky, Knott’s Berry Farm. For tickets and information, just visit their website.
