A couple of weeks ago, we celebrated my son’s 3rd birthday at our local zoo. If you were following my tweets, you saw my attempts to do something I’ve never done for either of my children…bake and decorate a birthday cake. The interesting thing about the cake I made for my son was that it was Vegan. Baking a Vegan cake in a Cars cake pan was easier than I thought it would be. It helped that I prepared the pan properly and used Wilton’s Bake Even strips. The challenging part was finding the right frosting. With my first attempt, I used a boxed Vegan frosting mix. It did not hold up well and I ended up redoing the cake using Wilton’s Decorator Icing. Here is a picture of my second attempt:
Decorating the cake took time, but it helped that I had a Triple-Star Decorating Tip and Cars Icing Color Set (so I didn’t have to think too much about how to mix the colors appropriately). The combination of the techniques I learned in the Wilton Method Cake Decorating Classes and their user-friendly products made my first attempt successful…not perfect…but successful.

: ) A little secret…..Wilton sells the exact colors for their Disney themed cakes…..I think that’s why the colors looked so good….

Wow! You did such a great job decorating that cake! It’s gorgeous! I know your little boy loved it! My son’s 3rd birthday party was today and I bought his cake. I really should take the time to learn how to decorate like you did!

Nancy….the class makes it so feasible…really! It took time for sure, but it was worth the smiles from my son! : )
