My mother first introduced me to tea when I was a tween. LA is home to a myriad of tea rooms and shops, and I quickly grew an affinity for English Breakfast and Earl Grey teas. I enjoyed the experience of sitting down with my mom or a friend for a cup of tea almost as much as the aromatic drink. With so many variety of teas, I’ve still yet to try them all, including the widely popular Bubble Tea.
Bubble Tea
Bubble Tea is a Taiwanese tea-based drink that contains tea, fruit or milk. Boba (tapioca balls) and fruit jelly are often added to the tea to complement the drink. The hottest, new location for Bubble Tea in Orange County is Ding Tea by Phybie. Located in Huntington Beach, the quaint tea shop specializes in fresh, made-to-order boba teas and fruit teas.
Ding Tea by Phybie
Eighteen-year-old OCSA (Orange County School of Arts) student Phybie Le is co-owner of the newest Ding Tea Franchise. Le’s love for boba, combined with her sense that there was a need for a new bubble tea shop in Huntington Beach inspired the store, which opened to the public on September 2nd, 2017.
The menu features a variety of milk teas, fruit teas, flavored teas, fruit juices, yakult/yogurt, coffees, and lattes. Their Signature Milk Tea is widely popular and consists of a blend of brewed black tea and milk. The menu also features widely-loved favorites like Matcha Milk Tea, Taro Milk Tea, Aloe Vera Kiwi Juice, and Hokkaido Coffee. Once you have selected your bubble tea, you can include add-ins such as Golden Boba, Rainbow Jelly, Crystal Boba, and Sea Cream (my favorite!).
The ambiance of Ding Tea by Phybie’s Bubble Tea Shop is warm and modern with wooden benches, couches, and Taiwanese-inspired decor. I can imagine this shop will be popular among college students, given the hip, minimalistic vibe and ample spaces for friends to converge.
