There are days (like today) when I wonder if my son is getting the proper amount of nutrition. He’s not always picky, but some days I feel like I prepare food in vain. My pediatrician is very lax about the fact that he doesn’t eat a lot some days, but I still worry. I am definitely one who believes in children (and adults for that matter) getting essential nutrients from whole foods, however, there are times when I also feel supplements are necessary.
We recently tried the new BOOST Kid Essentials Drink. I say “we” because, as a mom, I always try new foods before giving them to my son. I have to start by saying that this is the child who would drink milk all day long if he could. Being that the drink is “milky” in consistency and sweetened, I presumed he was going to like it. Take a look at this video and let me know what you think (don’t forget to watch it in HD):
Yes…he liked it. He drank the entire box and signed and asked for more. I decided to wait a few days before giving it to him again, to make sure he wasn’t allergic to any of the ingredients in the drink. I noticed the other day that he was sneezing and starting to get a runny nose so I pulled out that second box of Boost and look what my son did:
Once he couldn’t get any more out of the straw he poured it all over himself trying to get the last few drops. Looks like I’ll be running out to the store to buy more. I always know when he’s getting sick…his appetite really suffers. These drinks are really perfect for those times when my son won’t eat, or like this week, when he seems to be getting sick. I have fond memories of living on Boost when I had my wisdom teeth pulled out as a teenager.
When I read the nutritional content of BOOST Kid Essentials Drink I was surprised at how many vitamins and minerals it contains and still manages to taste good. Here is a little more information about BOOST Kid Essentials Drink from the site:
BOOST Kid Essentials Drink provides complete, balanced nutrition for kids ages 1 to 13. BOOST Kid Essentials Drink advances your kid’s nutrition with 25 essential vitamins and minerals, 7 grams of muscle-building protein, a good source of antioxidants (Vitamin C, E & Selenium), plus immunity-supporting probiotics.
There are so many things I like about the drink. First of all, my child likes it. Most importantly, it’s free from high fructose corn syrup and comes with the most innovative straw that actually contains probiotics (delivered with each sip). There has been a lot of talk of late, about the significance of probiotics. These “live, active cultures” provide numerous benefits, one of which is to support a healthy immune system. And if your child is underweight or just picky, BOOST Kid Essentials Drink may just be the nutritional support he/she needs. There is only one thing I’d like to know and that is how much sugar is in the drink. The box gives you the information on the amount of carbohydrates but nothing regarding the actual amount of sugar…inquiring minds want to know!
BOOST Kid Essentials Drink is available in Chocolate, Vanilla, and Strawberry and a six-pack retails for approximately $15.00. You can download a coupon for $5.00 directly from the site.

I think I have written this exact same post in my journal! My son once went on a 3-Day-No-Food strike where all he “ate” was milk. Everyone kept telling me “it’s normal” and “not to worry” but as a first time mom, I was going crazy!! I must have talked to every mom friend I had and was told the same thing: “he will eat when he’s hungry” and “not to worry!” But worry I did. A lot.
Luckily, I had received a coupon to try the Boost Kid Essential Drink for free. After two tries, my VERY picky eater was in love!!!
This drink is great “insurance” during those days (or weeks!) of toddler hunger strikes!
