Bob the Builder…Can we play AND learn? Yes we can!
We live in a society that thrives on technology. Children are accessing computers at a younger age and there is a need for games that entertain and educate. Brighter Minds Media publishes online and multimedia materials, software and books for the entire family with a focus on creating a wholesome, online environment. The company has recently released Bob the Builder: Can-Do Zoo, a computer program designed to teach your child through games and activities. The program has won numerous awards including an iParenting Media Award for Outstanding Product Call 2008.
With two types of play (story and free play) and three skill levels, Bob the Builder: Can-Do Zoo is designed to grow with and challenge your preschool child. Each of the seven learning games are designed to teach your child problem solving, pattern recognition, object classification, fine motor skills, spatial recognition, shape and color identification, and planning and time sequencing. I like how the company uses familiar characters from shows that children watch regularly like Bob and Thomas. One of my favorite aspects of the program is the sticker book mode. When a game or activity is completed, a sticker is awarded. Those stickers can then be used to create their own scenes. Learning is important but encouraging the expression of creativity is equally important and the program does a great job of incorporating both.
Bob the Builder: Can-Do Zoo is available in English and Spanish for both PC and Mac systems (yeah!) and retails for $19.95. If you purchase the program on the Brighter Minds Media website, you’ll receive free shipping! Be sure to enter their weekly contest here. This week it is for a Professor Fizzwizzle program!
