Eating out has always been viewed as a special occasion in our home. While there are those days when our activities prevent me from spending time in the kitchen, my passion is to cook a majority of my family’s meals, most days of the week. What this means is that my kids don’t know that things like fried cheese exist.
Our consumption of fried foods is infrequent, and in most instances, I look for healthier ways to serve up foods that are traditionally fried. However, a healthy indulgence on occasion is necessary, and since our family consumes a significant amount of cheese, I thought I’d create my own twist on this infamous restaurant appetizer.
Traditionally, these cheese sticks are breaded, deep-fried, then complimented with a marinara dipping sauce. Since I like a bit of spice to my dishes, I decided to combine traditional Mexican spices with lighter Panko bread crumbs, then bake them in the oven. The result was divine! Served these Baked Mexican Mozzarella Sticks with your favorite salsa and you have a healthy appetizer that you can feel good about indulging in.
