We’ve splashed, played, and explored all summer long, and while there are still a few weeks left of summer, it’s time to get serious about the coming school season. My son’s backpack is filled with brand new school supplies, so our next task was to update his wardrobe. My mother always ensured I had a few new outfits and shoes to start the new school year, and I’m continuing that tradition with my son. Since he will be starting Kindergarten, my goal is to create smart, trendy outfits that are comfortable and versatile for a lasting wear.
Last week, I was armed with $100 to shop for my son’s back-to-school wardrobe. I headed to my local Walmart to see how many items I could pick up and was quite impressed with the selection, particularly for boys. I have always struggled to shop for him, mostly because stores often cater towards girls. Here is a quick video of my shopping haul, which totaled before tax, $93.57.
As you can see, I managed to pick up quite a few items. With brands like Wrangler, Faded Glory, OP, Marvel, and LEGO, I found that I could shop for my son’s entire head-to-toe wardrobe in one store. Very often, I look for well-known brands like Wrangler because they have a reputation for quality and style. I expect to pay a bit more for these types of brands, but even at Walmart they’re affordable.
At present, my son isn’t particular about clothing but does have his preferences when it comes to characters. As he gets older, style will become important and I found that the apparel section at our local Walmart was on-trend.
I took my son shopping with me and allowed him to pick out his socks, shoes, and underwear, and together we picked out the staple items like pants and shirts. My favorite find was Faded Glory’s combo graphic tee plus plaid shirt. For just $9.97, I can create 3 different looks! The only item I wish I would have picked up was a versatile sweatshirt for the Fall and Winter months. While I had about $7 to spare before tax, I didn’t want to go over the $100 limit. Faded Glory has some nice fleece hoodies for under $15 and I’ll probably go back and pick a couple of them up to complete his wardrobe.
Overall we were quite pleased with our “haul!” Who knew that you could achieve style, quality, and affordability in one location? You can check out my entire back-to-school series here. And be sure to check out Walmart for your back-to-school needs!
