My best friend just got the sweetest phone from her husband for Mother’s Day and it got me thinking about my husband’s trends in gift giving. Now my husband has not always been the most savvy of shoppers, but with some guidance he has managed to go from giving me a blender for my birthday, to a beautiful necklace from my favorite jewelery store (which even included my son’s birthstone) for my first Mother’s Day. My BF and her husband and my husband and I were all hanging out together a few weeks ago when my BF was showing off her phone. She can take pictures, check her email and even read my blog! I looked at my phone slightly annoyed about the fact that its photo and internet capabilities are seriously lacking.
I had asked my husband for an iPhone for one of the many occasions we celebrated in the first half of this year. My birthday, our anniversary, and Mother’s Day are all wonderful opportunities to hook a mama up. I don’t know what got into me to even think that I could get my husband to purchase something for ME with an “i” in front of it but one can wish and hope and dream! Now I realize that this particular phone costs more than he wanted to spend on me so I was willing to compromise. I just wanted a smartphone! Well, I didn’t get one. For the record, I am not complaining about the gorgeous, thoughtful gift he gave me for Mother’s Day. But, I wanted to know why my husband always managed to snag the most sophisticated technological equipment.
This is what my husband said:
“Sweetie, I didn’t get you a smartphone because I was afraid you would be intimidated by the technology.”
This is what I heard:
“Sweetie, you are a complete idiot and would have no idea how to turn such a piece of equipment on, let alone utilize it to it’s full capacity.”
