{Consideration provided by Honda Center}
Every Sunday was deemed “sports day” in my home, which was ironic because on any given night during the week, my father would have the current season’s game streaming live on our TV. I grew up watching a variety of college and professional sports and I attended my first professional sporting event as a child. Having experienced professional baseball, basketball, golf, swimming and surfing competitions, sports became part of our shared family experiences.
A Night with the Anaheim Ducks
Over the weekend, our family finally added professional hockey game to that list. We experienced our very first hockey game, courtesy of the Anaheim Ducks Hockey Club. The combination of Star Wars Night and a final winning score of 5 – 1 (versus the Ottawa Senators), quickly converted us into fans.
The Anaheim Ducks are the professional ice hockey team of Orange County and their home games are played at the Honda Center. What’s interesting about the team is that it was originally founded by The Walt Disney Company, inspired by the film The Mighty Ducks. Their team record includes 12 playoffs, 5 Pacific Division titles, 2 Western Conference championships and 1 Stanley Cup.
Admittedly, some professional sporting events can be lengthy. What I loved about watching the Anaheim Ducks take on the Ottawa Senators was how exciting, and fast-paced the game was. There are 3 periods, which is enough time to understand and get into the game. I brought my 6 and 9 year old kids and they absolutely loved the game. In fact, we were all surprised when it was over and the Ducks were named the wining team.
Watching and playing sports is wonderful for children. Sports model teamwork and commitment. The team demonstrates how to win and lose graciously. And each athlete shows children the rewards of diligence and practice.
When you attend an Anaheim Ducks Game, you’ll want to make a day of it! Two hours prior to the start of each game, the Honda Center hosts a Hockey Spot where kids can play street hockey, get their wiggles out in the bounce house, win prizes and more. In honor of Star Wars Night, we had an opportunity to take photos with some of our favorites from the Light and the Dark side of the force. There are also a handful of sponsors giving out small gifts like beanies from Fox Sports and cell phone mounts from SWEETWORXX.
