An Inside Look At Pixar Animation Studios

Posted by Caryn Bailey 19 Comments

I have this list…this list of things I want to accomplish in my life.  It includes everything from writing a children’s book to driving across the country.  Surprisingly, I’ve checked some things off.  Others seem so far out of reach. Despite the fact that I haven’t updated it on this site, I have a journal where I’m constantly writing down new things I want to see and do.

I remember the first time I stepped foot inside The Walt Disney Studios.  It was during the Christmas season and my mom and I were invited to their holiday fair to shop.  I was in such awe of the origin of our family’s favorite Disney classics, and I knew that one day, I wanted to visit the other studio where magic is made.

Last week, I checked one more thing off of my “list.”  After *almost*visiting the infamous computer animation film studio a few years back, I finally stepped foot inside Pixar Animation Studios!  To be in such a creative space was inspirational.

I loved learning about the studio’s history…how Steve Jobs played an integral role as the co-founder and CEO in helping the studio become what it is today.  The building itself is open and spacious…an integral and purposeful design element to foster collaboration among the artists and employees at work.  Walking through the space took me back in time to some of our family’s favorite films…

The trip, as quick as it was, packed in a wide variety of content.  We screened the short film La Luna, which will debut before Brave this summer (June 22nd, 2012), watched just enough of Brave to have me yearning for more (a Scottish cliffhanger of sorts), engaged in immersive Brave-inspired Highland games, gleaned knowledge and inspiration from those involved with the film, screened Disneynature Chimpanzee, and embarked on a guided tour of the Walt Disney Family Museum.  To say it was a dream for this Disney-loving, film buff is an understatement.

I’m currently in Kissimmee, Florida to cover the red carpet premiere of Disneynature Chimpanzee, but very soon, I’ll share more information about Pixar’s soon-to-be released 3D computer animated film, which some are predicting will showcase Pixar’s best animation…ever!

No compensation was received for this post.  I was invited to San Francisco, courtesy of Disney and Pixar. All travel expenses provided.
