All About Mama: Second Base

Posted by Caryn Bailey 2 Comments

As a mom, I’m very conscious of the clothing I wear.  I’m definitely more modest these days, but I have a lot of items from my younger years that are stylish enough to continue wearing.  Pregnancy and nursing have changed my body in ways I never imagined, which makes dressing modestly a bit of challenge.

One of the fashion tips I held onto during pregnancy and now while I’m nursing, is to layer.  Many companies offer layering attire that will help prolong the amount of time you can wear your “normal” clothes and save you money in the long run (because you don’t have to purchase an entire maternity or nursing wardrobe).  While I did purchase several maternity items during both pregnancies, I limited my purchases of specialty nursing wear (mostly for cost purposes).

Second Base is a company that offers affordable, stylish, and modest demi-camisoles to help give you a bit more coverage.  I have a LOT of tops that looked appropriate before I got pregnant (the first time) but should no longer be worn as they are.  We all know what happens when a woman nurses.  Their demi-camisoles, which come in four different styles, provide just the right coverage without adding bulk or bunching around the waistline.  The product is ingenious.  Rather than layering with full tank tops (which tend to roll up on me), I can wear a lightweight demi-camisole that provides coverage where I need it. Here are some of my favorite features:

a.  The fabric (micro modal / spandex) is thin enough not to be an obvious layering piece while still providing adequate coverage

b.  The demi-camisoles are affordable (RV $29) and come in a variety of colors

c.  They’re comfortable and breathable (Once it’s on, I don’t even notice it’s there).

d.  Some of the styles offer bra-strap coverage while others have thinner straps for wearing with dresses and more formal attire

e.  They can be used with dresses, low cut tops, tank tops, and button down shirts

Second Base’s demi-camisoles come in four different styles:

Sarah: Classic cami silhouette with 1/4″ adjustable straps

Meredith:  Wider straps to cover the bra and a higher back for more modesty

Marlo:  Styled after the men’s tank tops (racer back)

Brittany:  Resembles the Sarah with a 1 3/4″ lace trim at neckline

Whether you need coverage for a fancy dress or a simple tank top, you’ll find that Second Base’s demi-camisoles are ideal for layering without being obvious.  The Meredith and Sarah styles are available in 1X, 2X, and 3X.  The Marlo and Brittany styles are available in sizes 30A to 38 E.  For more information or to purchase a demi-camisole, just visit their website.  Right now you’ll save 20% with the code “ROCKIN”

I did not received compensation for this post.  I received a product, courtesy of the company, in order to facilitate my review.

This is so great for some of the summer fashions here in Florida that those of us that are slightly larger on top and need to wear a bra, but don’t like to show the straps. Thanks for the review.
