Organization is the process of eliminating the excess and finding a place for everything…Stacey Crew
If you ask my husband on any given day what he would really like from me…it’s to be organized. I have always struggled with organization, and having children has only complicated this. I am not one to make New Year’s resolutions, but organization is something I’d really like to work on this year.
I love to read, but I don’t have a lot of time these days (hence the fact that you’ll rarely ever see a book review on my site unless it’s a children’s book). But every now and then, a book comes my way that I have to share with you, because I know you’ll benefit from it as I have. Stacey Crew, professional organizer and founder of the GOPACK Method, just released her brand new book entitled The Organized Mom. Whether you’re pregnant with your first baby or an experienced mom, this book is the resource you need to get and stay organized.
I really like Stacey’s perspective on getting organized. She emphasizes how important it is to take control of the stuff in our lives. I know when I have a pile of papers or a bin of clothes, I feel overwhelmed. Well, that is the “stuff” taking over my life. It makes me feel stressed and out of control. And being unorganized is a huge time-waster. But this doesn’t have to continue. Stacey’s book gives moms an attainable, step-by-step approach to organizing her entire home.
I don’t like clutter, but I can be very sentimental, so I struggle to find a balance with this all of the time. The GOPACK method (Group Objects, Purge, Assign, Contain, and Keep It Up), is a well-thought out, methodical approach to organization. Stacey dedicates an entire chapter to achieving results with this method. I definitely feel like I could apply this method to any room in the house and any organizational project.
Getting rid of items is always the hardest part of organization. Stacey has a list of “easy to toss” items on her website. Her definition of clutter (indecision + other people’s expectations of us) strikes close to home. It speaks to my indecisive and people-pleasing nature, and motivates me to take a closer look at the “stuff” in my life.
The book then proceeds to go through organizing the rest of your home including the nursery, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, office, closets, entryways, and garage. Stacey tells you exactly what you need and where to put it. She includes diagrams and checklists so that it’s easy and attainable. Organization takes time and I appreciate the fact that she acknowledges this. She also makes a point to talk about the anticipated hurdles and how to get over them.
The second half of the book is focused on how to organize and prepare for your baby’s arrival. Stacey includes a must-read chapter on babyproofing and a unique chapter on baby’s firsts. Because, the reason I as a mom want to get organized is to have more time for my children…to enjoy those special moments.
The Organized Mom is available on Amazon.com and retails for $15.96.
I did not receive compensation for this post. I did receive the book, courtesy of the company, in order to facilitate my review.

What a great book! I’m the same way. Hate the clutter, but extremely sentimental! I always make piles when I am cleaning things. Things we use all the time, some times, never. It’s the amazing the amount of stuff that I can deal with parting with!
