My son has an affectionado towards a certain mouse. Perhaps it was our weekly trips to Disneyland (now less often because of the pregnancy) that make Mickey Mouse the exception when it comes to gigantic costumed characters. Earlier this week my little boy and I were supposed to join 30 preschoolers in LA this week for the conclusion of Mickey’s Virtual Train Tour. But as it goes, sickness invaded our household so my little boy did not get to see his favorite mouse.
Mickey boarded his train in Kansas City and made the trek all the way out to sunny California earlier this week. I had no idea, but Walt Disney loved trains and apparently railroad themes were often featured as key elements in his sketches and animated shorts (I learned that from the Disney site!). If you live in the LA area, you definitely want to head on over to Travel Town Museum in Griffith Park to view the display of the historical collection of train-themed artwork from the Walt Disney Vault. Here is a bit more information about this collection:
The exhibit captures the history of Walt’s love of trains with a nod to life on the railroad in the early 20th century and introduces visitors to rare animation sketches and cells, historic photography and some of Walt’s personal train-related artifacts. The gallery tells the story of a simpler time when Mickey and friends traveled by rail and Walt himself was building one-of-a-kind miniature railroads in his backyard for friends and family. Including photographs of Walt riding the “Lilly Belle” and Mickey rushing to catch a train in an early animation sketch from Mr. Mouse Takes A Trip, this unique art collection is comprised of nearly two dozen pieces.
TODAY, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Choo Choo Express will air on the Disney Channel at 7:00-7:45 p.m. ET/PT. My son loves watching the show so we’re going to set our TIVO to record it.
And if you’re looking for a holiday gift idea for that special child in your life, check out Disney and Fisher Price’s brand new toy, Mickey’s Magic Choo Choo (I know my son has it on his list!).

What a bummer! We were there. My daughter is the one in the purple shirt with the messy hair…lol. When we arrived, I took her out of the car and asked her what happened to her hair. She replied, “You didn’t bring me any toys Mommy, so I play with my hair when we drive”. Oopsie, lesson learned. Next time, a comb will come along with us to these events. Anyway, it was a blast! I posted a little something about it over at my blog.
