It’s the middle of summer, and while we’re still savoring the last few days of June gloom, the heat is coming! July and August are traditionally the hottest months in Southern California, and while you’ll likely find us poolside or splashing at our local beach, we do have a few get-togethers planned which require more than beach casual attire. I love to dress up and I practically live in sundresses during the warm summer months, but Jason is quite content to live in shorts and tees. Since he needed some wardrobe staples that could be used for family get-togethers, work picnics, and other casual events, he headed over to our local Walmart to peruse the latest polos and shorts that are trending this Summer season.
Earlier this month, I had an opportunity to meet with some members of the apparel team in Bentonville, Arkansas. During our session, we shared our personal, in-store experiences and learned about how Walmart continues to improve quality and offer on-trend styles while still providing value. Name brands are still very important to shoppers, so it was nice to see familiars like Hanes, Faded Glory, Wrangler, and No Boundaries priced at below $20!
Since Summer is all about color, Jason picked out a Ben Hogan Performance Short Sleeve Polo Shirt which features a teal striped pattern. If you’re thinking that a polo shirt sounds warm for the summer, this particular style features moisture wicking fabric to keep him cool and dry. If you know anything about golf, you can assume this shirt was designed as performance-wear on the golf course. However, the fabrics are light, soft, and comfortable enough to be used in any type of outdoor activity or an afternoon with friends.
Shorts are always difficult to purchase, and I personally don’t often wear them simply because I often find them to be too casual. But for men, a well-made cargo or twill short can be paired with a Polo for a sophisticated look. Jason picked out a No Boundaries Belted Flat Front Short in Outpost Brown to pair with Polos. This particular short actually comes with a belt which I find complimented the overall look well. He could easily pair these shorts with any number of tops, tees, tanks, or polos, dressing them up or down depending on the occasion.
Before tax, Jason spent less than $30 on this entire outfit which is impressive, considering the quality of both the Polo and the Shorts. And, because the pieces are versatile, he can pair them with other items in his closet.
Walmart.com has an expansive selection of polos and shirts for men, but I recommend visiting your local Walmart store as very often I’ve found additional, seasonal wardrobe pieces that are both stylish and affordable.
