Halloween is one of my kids’ favorite times of the year and one I particularly enjoy because of the numerous opportunities we have to create lasting memories together. From picking out pumpkins at our local pumpkin patch to trick-or-treating with our favorite Mouse, we actually get quite a bit of use out of our Halloween costumes so it makes sense to look for quality pieces that will last throughout the season (and into the following year if possible).
As soon as I spotted Halloween items being placed in our local Walmart store, the kids and I perused the costumes section in search of their favorite characters, which often vary considerably, even from day-to-day. One of the things I noticed this year was that the costumes were organized well by gender and size, which made browsing easier on the eyes. My kids have very specific ideas about their Halloween costumes, so we decided to check out Walmart.com before making a purchase.
If you visit Walmart’s Halloween site, you’ll find your best selection of costumes, including Disney Halloween Costumes featuring your kids’ favorite characters. Walmart.com recently updated their site and browsing has significantly been streamlined to help you find exactly what you’re looking for in a short amount of time. For example, when you shop for Halloween costumes, you can search by gender, character, theme, size, price, age, material, retailer (Walmart.com, Costume Kingdom, etc.), customer ratings, and special offers (i.e. Rollback, Clearance, etc.). This really helped narrow down the choices for my kids, since I always allow them to pick their own costumes.
My son opted for the Deluxe Jedi Halloween Costume and my daughter opted for the Aurora Classic Halloween Costume. We ordered the costumes site-to-store and surprisingly, they showed up in less time than predicted on the site. The very first time we ordered the sizing was off, so we re-ordered and still had our costumes in plenty of time to celebrate the season, but I would highly recommend paying close attention to the sizing charts provided for each costume to avoid having to exchange and re-order.
One of the first things I noticed about the costumes was the quality. The Deluxe Jedi Costume ($31.65) includes a tunic with an attached shirt, pants with attached boot tops and a printed belt. The fabrics are soft, comfortable, and lightweight as opposed to many costumes which can irritate or itch children’s delicate skin. We loved the authentic Jedi look of this costume and we completed it by adding my son’s lightsaber. Because this costume was made with quality fabrics, my son can use it for school plays, other types of parties, or any other occasion where he would need to dress up.
With Maleficent dominating box offices earlier this year, many little girls will want to dress up as the beautiful Princess Aurora. The Aurora Classic Halloween Costume ($19.97) is an officially licensed ensemble exclusive to Walmart and includes both the dress and the headpiece. This costume is exquisitely detailed with pink embroidery and features a simple but gorgeous gold fabric. I personally love the addition of the headpiece which wasn’t offered with other “Aurora” costumes. My daughter is particularly sensitive when it comes to fabrics so we both appreciated how comfortable this costume was. Like my son’s Deluxe Jedi Costume, she’ll be able to use this for future dress-up occasions.
While you can likely find costumes for under $5 at Walmart, we prefer to spend a little more to get items that will last through the season and into the coming year. If you’re looking for something last minute, you’ll find a wide variety in-stores but I suggest spending some time online if you (or your children) have a specific character in mind, particularly if you are looking for Disney Halloween Costumes. Be sure to order by October 27th, 2014 for delivery by Halloween!
